Steve,
Galil outputs are fine, but they must be set thru Mach or Mach will change them back in 100 ms. Just map them and use Mach to control them.

Galil / Re: Should abort give an EStop in Mach?

I agree, and looked into it after your last request. It appears that the AB input does not pass to the data record the same way as the inputs do and it just isn't possible to get it working without the jumpering that I told you about. Sorry, but it is a Galil / Mach3 thing, and I can't change it here.

Kenny,

The screen you are looking for is under config>config plugins.
Select the Galil plugin and you will get the screens as in the PDF manual.

Just jumper the abort input to any available Galil input and map it in ports and pins to the EStop.

Your damaged encoder is something of a giveaway. You probably have both encoders failing due to either mis-wiring or voltage surge. It is likely that you have A,invert A, B and invertB lines used. You my try and disconnect both of the invert lines and run single ended to troubleshoot. If the trouble continues, swap the std and invert encoder connections and see if that helps. You do not want Mach or the plugin running at this ime, only Smartterm. You should ensure that motor noise is not reaching the encoder leads and use shielded canble for the encoders grounded at the Galil end only.
Cheers,
Kenny

Definitely use the USB!! The serial is way too slow for this use.
Do you see the USB control under Smartterm? You should and select it and connect to it.

Smurph bought one of these and got it running right away. Proceedure is as follows:
download and install Smartterm. Reboot computer system. Use Smartterm to Register the controller in the Galil registry. Then connect to the controller using Smartterm and test it using some Galil Commands, Finally you need to connect to it in the plugin by selecting the correct controller on the first screen of the plugin config. You should download and follow the PDF for the plugin to avoid difficulties.
That should get you going.

I have had reports from 3 different people using these so far. I can't tell you that there will be no troubles, but none have been reported to me so far. The original auction has run out, but I have been told that there are still more controls available from them.
Good luck, and let me know about any problems that you may have. I am still working on the single point threading for the plugin, so don't plan on using that very soon, but I'll get it eventually.

By all means, check out the Galildebug file. It will give a wealth of troubleshooting information. Also send mr a copy and I will try to figure it all out for you.

Ports and pins settings are absolutely necessary to communicate with Mach. Please see the PDF manual on the plugins download page.
