Galil / Re: galil 17xx and mach 3 setup
« on: July 23, 2012, 11:54:01 AM »
Nelson,
The 1700 must be registered as spelled out in the Galil manual and then you MUST download and use Galil Smartterm for testing so that the correct driver is loaded to work with the Mach/Galil plugin. You will also need to download plugin version 4.4 from the Mach web site. There is a PDF manual available for download on the same page which gives instructions regarding mapping I/O properly.
Cheers,
Kenny

From the PDF

Configuring Mach:

*******************************************************

Limit and home switches are configured on the ports & pins inputs   <---------------------------------------------
screen.
*******************************************************

They are wired to the Galil inputs and configured as in the table below:
All use port #1
X +limit ----- pin #1 A +limit ----- pin #4
X –limit ----- pin #9 A –limit ----- pin #12
X home ----- pin #17 A home ----- pin #20
Y +limit ----- pin #2 B +limit ----- pin #5
Y –limit ----- pin #10 B –limit ----- pin #13
Y home ----- pin #18 B home ----- pin #21
Z +limit ----- pin #3 C +limit ----- pin #6
Z –limit ----- pin #11 C –limit ----- pin #14
Z home ----- pin #19 C home ----- pin #22

The screen is config >General config > ports & pins > inputs

You need to download and read the PDF manual that is on the Machsopport.com > Plugins > Galil  download page. The correct information regarding setting up Mach3 and Galil controllers are in there. That document should help with your setup questions.

The port and pin numbers in thr PDF manual are correct, you should use them as described. The pin numbers shown in Mach are for the parallel port only, which you won't be using.

Marty,
You want to be in current (torque) mode. Set the jumpers and pots as on the sheet for the amp. You will also want to attach the amp enable line from the Galil so that you can shut dowm the amp with a Mach reset signal. You may need to change the ic on your Galil breakout from 7407 to 7406 to get the correct output for the AMC amplifier.
Cheers,

Its not an earlier plugin, but an earler version of Mach3 that you need to look for. That is what broke the gantry mode homing.

After much discussion, I found that the slaved homing issue started with Mach3 a few releases back. I would suggest that you use an earlier release (sorry, don't knw which to recommend) until the issue is isolated and corrected. I wish that we could fix it in the plugin, but no joy at this time.

Were both axes tuned the same in Mach?

I still think that you are better off slaving the axes in Mach as it already has the ability to do squaring of the gantry when homing. It won't be obvious until you try and use an MPG why this is so important, but it really is. Lots of things can be done in the Galil, but in this case, I would let Mach do its thing. There are lots of people using slaved axes and the plugin successfully.
