One more question. Do you have Galil Smartterm installed on your machine, or are you using Galil tools. You should have Smartterm installed to work with the plugin. Please et me know?

Mark,
Did you go to " config > Config Plugins > Galil ..."  first screen to configure the plugin to your Galil board as explained in the Galil.pdf file? If not, then download that from the plugins page where you got the Galil plugin and follow it. It should help a lot with the setup.
Cheers,
Kenny

Mark,
Try using the "BN" command to burn (save) the values to the Galil.

Not to worry you, the hardwired MPG (into the Galil inputs) works very well indeed and the brain files aren't too hard to do either. I just am not comfortable with motion depending on a device that only communicates every 100ms either. Think broken tools or worse!

racecar,
I have had trouble with the Modbus based stuff that needs to pass data quickly to Mach. There is a 100ms latency that may cause jerky motion should not be a problem when Mach4 is out). I have been successful with the MPG-04 from CNC4PC. Any MPG will likely need brain files to get proper communication with Mach.

Galil / Re: Galil controlling drives in torque mode?
« on: December 03, 2012, 01:46:56 PM »
You'll need to configure (and wire) the drives to use a -10, 0, +10v signal and then tune the Galil board servo settings. Some drives will run smoother when set to velocity mode, so you'll need to experiment some.

There is indeed trouble with longer programs. It has been identified and a fix has been tested and found to work well. Please e-mail me at the address in the PDF manual and I can send you a build to try.

I would go with the 2160 over the 1800 board as it will be much easier to implement on your system. The 100 pin cable for the 1800 can be a real show stopper at times.

Kenny
