G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Converting seconds to milliseconds
« on: October 21, 2008, 09:21:13 PM »
Hi,

My G-code contains dwell times in milliseconds, but Mach3 interprets it in seconds. So, I end up waiting 80 seconds burning my tool instead of a quick 80 milliseconds.
Anyone know how to ask Mach to interpret in seconds? I'm tired of editing my G-code.

Thanks
aleks.

General Mach Discussion / ellipical path in MACH3
« on: February 23, 2008, 09:55:15 PM »
Hi
Is there a way to have my CNC lathe cut an elliptical path? Or does G code only operate using circle arcs and lines?
Thanks
Aleks.

General Mach Discussion / Spontaneous Mach Turn Shut off
« on: January 23, 2008, 10:54:50 PM »
Hi, i used Mach turn for a whole project and things worked ok.
Now, i output a G-code file from mastercam X, ran it in Mach turn, and the thing shut off. I turned the computer on/off and it did it again.
Basically, after loading the file, Mach turn either shuts off right away, or moments later when i start setting up my job. What's going on?
Has anyone experimienced this?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach3 ignores Feed Speed
« on: January 02, 2008, 01:29:17 PM »
Thanks alot! I really appreciate it!
Here is the lathe post processor which i already modified by changing the y scaling from 2 to -2.
All I would need is to add a line of G94 at the beginning of every code, because i always use metric.
Also, if you know how to resolve this problem with a few mouse click, i'd be very greatful aswel: http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,5331.0.html
Thanks
Aleks.

PS: I changed the extension of the MPLFAN From .pst to .txt because machsupport didn't like the other extension

Thanks! It worked!
I thought that G21 took care of everythin, but i guess G94 is necessary
Now is there a way to change my post processor to add that in every time to avoid catastrophe in the future?

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 ignores Feed Speed
« on: January 01, 2008, 06:55:32 PM »
Mach3 doesn't take into account my feeds. It just runs everything at rapid = 1000mm/min
What's the deal?

Thanks
Aleks.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Wrong Arc
« on: January 01, 2008, 06:36:01 PM »
Hi,
Im using Mastercam X and the MPLFAN.pst post processor which came with it. I had to modify it by changing the Y scaling from 2 to -2 because it was inverting my X axis output and i wanted positive values.
This might have something to do with the problem.
But i'm wondering how MACH3 is supposed to know which arc to take, considering there are two to choose from?

As for the DXF, i didn't save it. But it's basically what you see in the GIF above. The problem will occur with any outer radius.

Any thoughts?

That reversed the direction of the arc... but the problem is that it chooses the wrong arc
This is what the piece should look like:

General Mach Discussion / Wrong Arc
« on: January 01, 2008, 04:39:55 PM »
When Mach3 decides which arc to choose between two point (X1,Z1) and (X2,Z2) with a given radius, it chooses the wrong one! see below
It takes the right direction, but it choose a different arc (any two points have two circles with the same radius going through them)
I'm not even sure how it's supposed to know which one to choose. Is it supposed to choose the shortest one?
Have can i fix this? Is it a Mach3 problem, or a Gcode problem.

Aleks.
