General Mach Discussion / Re: Home switches
« on: March 21, 2008, 09:31:42 PM »
OK...the no +5v on pin12 in fixed, when I tested the port  for 5v i forgot to push the normally closed home switch, for -0v.  I now have shielded wire to put on the home switches tomorrow.

Next will be the spindle wiring on the board, would that be input 10,11,15,??  ground com. on board??  Does this sound right?

I have the switches wired as you said, except i have them wired Z, X, Y, only ground wire to the end of the last one, and hot wire from there to pin 12. I am not getting 5v out of pin 12. I have checked pins 10,11,13,15, they have 5v.  Could I have blown pin 12 some how. As for the switches being solid to bed, they are loose on the screws. I will take care of that. When I shut down my machine I am getting ticking sound out of the charge pump, and it's not wired to the board yet. It sounds like a current pop maby. It also was tripping the switches with out hitting and said limit switch hit, maby  because there loose?  I'm trying guys stick with me!! :)

Thanks Jimpinder...for your reply, I will wire my home switches in this way as you say. just to confirm,

Ground from 18to25 to Z switch jump to Y switch , jump to X switch, then +5v back to pin 12 or any Input pin, correct?

The reason for wiring switches normally closed , I read it on one of the threads, an it sounded like the safest ! At this point I haven't wired them yet so I can go eather way?

I am only doing XYZ Home, should I enable X++ X-- and so on?

I will use printer cable wire for the home switches, just wandering if you can use solid copper wire very small, or would it brake with the movement?

At this point I haven't used any of my inputs, just picked 12 at random . I need to hook up my charge pump , e-stop , and the spindle inputs, will need the rest for these? Thanks again for yory HELP.

Is it best to us shielded 22ga wire for wiring home switches? Sure could use some advise here, I have burnt one board, Stepmasternc screwed me out of one, Paid and did not receive !! >:( If this wire is what I should be using, where is the best place to buy??

General Mach Discussion / Re: motor Drive Board Info

Thanks Dennis for the info, I will check and  see if they are close. The best for me at this stage is a board I can transfer wires from one hole to the next, with the least confusion. Sounds dumb but I am not an electronics guru.

General Mach Discussion / motor Drive Board Info
« on: January 23, 2008, 12:43:23 PM »
Well I think I have fried my Drive Board and, it is a Stepmaster NC 3 axis Sop-1 Board. Does anyone have there phone number, there web site has (305 671 3860) but it is no longer in service. My thinking is it might be best to replace with the same kind of board since I know very little about this procedure. Any help out there. Thanks Wil

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach 3.00 problems
« on: January 07, 2008, 01:23:14 PM »
I have downloaded the mach3 2.00 verson and had problems with it, so i took it out of my computer and downloaded the mach3 3.00 verson and the reboot came up before i finished but i still done like it  said and rebooted. It took me straight to the finish, in you tutorial video there was a place to check for mill use or symulate and i never seen that part, also it just downloaded the 2.00 verson again? I have watched the tutorials and the written verson but when i download mine it seems to never work the way your tutorial does?? Would it work better to just buy the Lic. program over the free download, I just did'nt want to spend the money until i was sure i could work the machine??  i can move the up and down key and make the Y axis move but the X and Z will not move. I am lost???  Wil

Hi..I am new to this world of cnc, only a couple months. I live in missouri, I have been in a wheelchair for 37 years since Vietnam. I built a small lawn and garden business in 1983, just retired from it in 2004 due to shoulder surgery, they say your arms are not ment to replace your legs and they are so right. Not whinning just history. Hobbys are drag racing alchol funny car and just started building models of some of my cars, this is why i wanted to get into this field to maby build small parts for my projects. What i have done so far has been all out of scrap metal around the shop. i have a medium size manual jet mill works fine just wears you out cranking the wheels, this is the reason i bought this Terco mill, maby not the best choice but did'nt want to spend to much on a machine, maby i couldn't run, i won't give up but will be asking some dumb questions! There is my life, welcome to it!!  Wil :)

Mach3 and G-Rex / motors running table not need help
« on: December 28, 2007, 11:03:36 PM »
I am new to this cnc world, and have loaded the mach 3 today and was going pretty good until , the tuning of the motors came along! I was tuning them as it said by the sound of the motor smoothness, with out chatter but I noticed the table wasn't moving in any direction. Can someone tell me what i need to do to make the table move with the motor or do i have an other problem. The mill is a Terco mill. Only one motor has any info on it and it runs at 200 steps per rev, other two have no tags on them, they are orange if that helps any. Not sure what else to say about it, let know if you need moreinfo and I'll trry to get it. Thanks for any Help...Wil :-\
