General Mach Discussion / Re: Edge finding?
« on: August 23, 2007, 10:26:03 PM »
Hi, Alum (forgive the familiariaty)

Looked at your pic and comments about finding a zero point.  Your problem is because you are looking at your rectangle instead  of looking at the x and y coordinates as being parallel lines.  Even though you indicate an x-coordinate and then move down and over for a y coordinate (or vice-versa), you are only indicating two coordinates (lets call one 4 and the other 6).  The mid point is 5.  You are indicating edges (EDGE FINDER!) not angles.  I am not aware of any instrument that will produce what you are trying to determine with only two inputs.

Maybe it is only I who is totally confused by what you are trying to determine.  Good luck with your hunt and maybe someone with more savvy than I have will be able to help you.

Hi, Aluman:

Not sure what you mean by "probing," if you dont want to want to use digitizing.  But there was another shop made probe listed in a post somewhere on here (sorry, don't remember where).  Don't think it is being offered for sale yet though.  Maybe someone else knows another solution.  Have you ever used a mechanicla edge finder - type that spins in the spindle and kicks out when it reaches an edge?  Accurate and Inexpensive - can probably be found on E-bay or at any machine shop tool supplier.

Good luck.

Hi, Aluman:

Depending on complexity, zarzul (a poster here) has a neat little optical edge finder that he sells pretty inexpensively - look in the bargain basement under edge finder.  I have used his unit with good results.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Text In LCam 2.04
« on: August 12, 2007, 01:19:17 AM »
Having problem with the Text feature in LC 2.04.  When LC writes the Gcode and I import into Mach3 the letters come out reversed when they are cut.  They show properly in the tool table window and the mill cuts them in the proper order, but the letters are upside down.  I have tried every configuration of port and pin reversals, etc.  Reversing the Y axis to Dir Active Low got the text to cut properly, but then the Machine Coordinates and the DRO coordinates will not synch.  Could be a machine problem, but I haven't had any problem with other code.

Any and all assistance and direction appreciated.

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: lazy cam help

Andrew, attached is a similar spacer that I drew recently with CADX11 and imported into LCAM.  Interesting to note, that I have four entities around the outside edge - when I loaded your file into LCAM the outside contained 257 entities - that was after cleaning and optimizing.  My drawing is only 2" X 4" though.

Since I was able to load your file the number of entities should not have caused a problem for you, but the complexity did raise some questions.

Okay - so I did not read the statement that Net 2 was required. Actually, I did read it, but thought it referred to Service Pack 2.  Anyway, I went to the MS site downloaded net 2 and all is well.

LazyCam (Beta) / LazyCam 2.02 will not run
« on: May 22, 2007, 07:51:43 AM »
Downloaded the beta version of LC 2.02 and cannot get it to run.  The following message comes up:

"Application failed to initilize properly (0xc01500002).'

Running Windows XP Home Edition on a 3.07GHz desk top (not a laptop) machine  All previous versions of LC operated properly.

Any ideas what I could do to correct the problem?

Thanks
