One more thought (I don't have many to spare!)

Regarding your not being able to shut down -  I had this happen in the past when trying to run a video cam in Mach3  and came up with this solution.

"Go into Control Panel and open Internet Options, then go Advanced and scroll down to Security - Look at the "Allow active content to run in files on my computer."  If this item is not checked, check it to make the option active.  I have not had any problems running the cam since I did that."

Could be something similar

Bob@ BobsShop - time to  get off here and go drink beer.

Not to be repetitive, but this really sounds similar to the problem that I had.  The following is a quote from one of my previous posts.

"Okay - so I did not read the statement that Net 2 was required. Actually, I did read it, but thought it referred to Service Pack 2.  Anyway, I went to the MS site downloaded net 2 and all is well."

I know how frustrating it can be at times to get Mach3 and LazyCam sorted out, but I have found the results to be worth the effort.    And, most of my problems have been due to a nut (me) loose on the keyboard.

Just a thought - Did you see this message regarding LazyCam?

"Note: This version requires the ".net 2.0 update" from microsoft. Otherwise you will get an error at startup."

I could not run LazyCam until I downloaded the MS update.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Problem on opening Mach 3

Hunnam:

Check your electrical cables.  I had "twitchy," motors for a long time.  Ran fine, but when not running code the motors would jerk.  In addition the wireless mouse I use would occasionally not pickup all the moves.  Never could figure it out.  One day I was rearranging things on my bench and noticed a big difference in the mouse response.  My supply cords are long I had coiled them to prevent dangling.  When I moved the coiled electrical supply cords away from the wires running to my motors the twitching stopped.

Bob @ BobsShop - If a problem seems like it could be caused by some sort of electrical function - it usually is.

Mike, not sure from your write-up exactly what you are trying to accomplish - But, I have not found anything I wanted to do with my Taig mill that I could not accomplish with Mach3 and a free CAD program (CADX11).  There are a couple of a surfacing programs in the Wizards function of Mach3.

I have access BobCad, but have not found it to be any more useful than Mac3, Cadx, and DeskEngrave.

Save your big money for more important things like metal and beer!

Bob @ BobsShop - BTW - I am not associated in anyway with any of the above mentioned programs

Nice mirrors -  Several questions.

1)  Are the mirror heads adjustable? Or, does rider have to adjust by turning the stems?

2)  If the heads are adjustable; Where did you get the mounting shaft? Or, how did you machine the ball and shaft.

3) What did you use to mill the glass?

Thanks

swbogart - I downloaded your dxf - Could not get it to load in LazyCam but was able to open it in AutoCad and then re-saved it as a new DXF file.  The new file opened in LazyCam without a problem.

See if you can download and open the file attached.  If you can, it would sound like the problem might be the format in which you are saving your file.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Motors won't run smooth

bongiorno - Since you are dealing with a homemade machine there could be other issues, but tuning the motors is relatively easy - they do have to be on your mill.

Open Mach3 and Settings tab (Alt6)  Look in the lower right corner for the Axis Calibration - Set Steps Per Unit button.  Click on that and follow the on-screen commands.

Good luck

Swbogart - Is your DXF file still open in TurboCad when you try to import it into LazyCam?  If it is, then that is probably the problem.  Close the TurboCad File (not necessary to close TurboCad, just the file in question.)  If the file is not open then???

Good luck

Monte, sent you a pm with all my (or most of it anyway) settings.  Reread your posts and it seems like you have covered pretty much everything.   Scratching my head and trying to remember problems I have had.  At one point I had a short in one of the motor cables.  Did not happen all the time, but every now and then my motors would stutter and suddenly reverse course.  Took me a while to sort that one out.

Another time I had electrical interference from a small shop vac.  Resulted in motors suddenly taking off at a right angle to the programmed path.  That was fun also.

Good Luck
