General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach 3 turn constant sfm?

Yes that seems to be a good likeness ;D

Ok quick test, first thing was add a blended feed DRO to the screenset

MDI
G96S200
M48S1000
M3

Start at X10
G1X200F0.5

FPR starts at 0.5 and as spindle slows gets as high as 1.3
Blended starts at 490 and remains constant
Next

Start X200
G1X10F.5

FPR Starts at 0.5 and as spindle speeds up it goes as low as 0.16
Blended starts and maintains 155

In other words its well screwed up and would be good to know if others get the same results with the same inputs with SS and PP.

Hood

Hood,

Just did a quick test. Seeing similar behaviour here as well. Mach3 always maintains same mm/min feed and adjusts the mm/rev accordingly. The mm/min feedrate at which it moves corresponds to the mm/rev feedrate at the beginning of the move. This is with a Smooth Stepper.

While I am not familiar with the particular ball screws on the link, I do know that the Taiwanese HIWIN is the leading Asian manufacturer of linear motion components. Their ball screws have good reputation around the world and quality is very good. Only bad thing I've heard about their ball screws was from a seller of NSK ball screws, who said that although they are very good quality and meet the specs, they don't last as long as NSK because the steel is inferior to the NSK.

So if you're looking for good quality linear motion components for the money, HIWIN is supposed to be the answer. Ask the seller what make are those.

Note that I haven't used HIWIN ball screws nor have I had any experience with them. Just sharing what I know from others.

Mill is first priority. Once it works well Brian will move to lathe... I hope.

Thanks Wes. Although I am quite sure I was in diameter mode, I will check it again later.

It is a known bug in Mach3 Turn. The combination of G95 and CSS doesn't work. G94 with CSS work fine.

It is normal for steppers to get hot. Their operating temperatures are fairly high. Up to 70 degrees Celsius is absolutely normal. If you can't hold your hand on it for more than one second then it's about 65 degrees.

The G251 has a current reduction feature while motor is idle, but to enable it you must use a current limiting resistor, even if it is the top 3.5A of the drive.

Hi,

Did you shut down Mach3 before running the driver test?

Hi AR,

Thanks for the info. Have been always curious about how this works.
