General Mach Discussion / Re: Two heads

Right Hood. Steve did this with an external board which receives a signal from Mach and swaps the pins of two axes. Using two of this boards should do what's asked for. He was intending to be selling them, so may be contact him and ask.

This is correct, Gerry. At least with the Smooth Stepper it is. Unless you do ResetAxisSwap() after a SwapAxis() using another SwapAxis() wouldn't work.

Hood's first suggestion seems to be the only way. Of course you can also go to the Ports and Pins and swap the pins manually as well.

Works in progress / Re: THE LATHE PROJECT-2011 - THREADING WIZARD ONLY
« on: January 09, 2011, 01:56:56 PM »
Making the simple threading wizard on a single page would be nice. Often forget to go to the settings page. Also, the code output by the simple threading wizard does a move in machine coordinates to tool change position (not noted in the wizard) which in my mind has to be omitted. No other wizard does this and all of my programs I never use machine coordinates. Had few crashes when forgot to comment out that move.

Cannot comment on the other threading wizards as I have never used them.

I agree, Rich. The screen which comes with Mach3Turn is very annoying to use with its jumping back and forth between the screens. A screen set providing all the day to day features on one screen is a good improvement. However, the biggest advantage, of the 1024 screen set is its simple screens with only few buttons and you don't have to look for that single button all over the screen. so we need to be careful not to get carried away by trying to put everything on the main page.

I like large buttons and DRO's. The DRO's on Phil's screen are too small for me. I like them being distinct from the other stuff on the screen. Scott's screen has lot's of unused space. I think it's a waste. buttons could be made bigger.

Also, would be nice to have FRO percentage slide bars like in Mach Mill, and not some arrows that change the feed by a set amount.

Works in progress / Re: 3 PAGE LATHE SCREEN - WIZARD ADDITIONS

Good ideas guys. I agree on most of the things. While I am not a programmer and never built a screen, I will try to contribute as I can.

Holding down the Ctrl key while using the jog buttons will switch you to incremental mode.

The way it works now (OK, should work...) you will utilize your whole available speed range in the above example. Do you want to restrict it?? Don't follow you.

Actually, none of the G81 to G89 canned cycles are implemented.

Also, G77 and G78 are not implemented, although appear in the manual.

Also the G73 High Speed Peck Drill Canned Cycle.

Tool Path display.

Spindle Override..? What's wrong with it? Seems to work here...

Just to add up to what Rich and Dave said about carbide end mills. Avoid hand spraying with carbide tools as the fast temperature drop may chip them.
