Hood,

Main reason I don't like large motors on small machines is I am afraid the motor would have enough power to damage the machine should something go wrong. But you're using a servo and can limit the current/torque to a value you like.

Would you share your E-stop diagram?

What size is the lathe? What are the travels?

Hood,

Looks good! Going to be nice little machine... hmm... somehow it doesn't sound right - small machine in conjunction with Hood ;D

Did you go with servos just because you had them lying around? Besides, looks like an overkill to use a 400W servo on the Z of this little lathe?

Troy,

The correct way would be figuring the centre of gravity of the head and anchor it there, I think.

Regarding vibration dampening, this should not be a factor to be considered as the chain cannot transfer any substantial vibrations. The vibrations will be dampened by the head mass and also transferred to the column and base via the linear slides and thus it's important to have well preloaded linear blocks.

Someone else will have to address the plugin question as I am not an expert. What I do know is that Mach3's data transfer rate is 10Hz indeed, like you said.

The screen refresh rate is fixed and doesn't depend on the engine frequency as far as I know.

LOL... I was trying to keep this conversion as simple as I could, but somehow I keep adding more "features" to it, and now you're suggesting throwing in a PLC as well... no thanks ;)

Dan

P.S.
Sorry, forgot that simple for you means using a PLC in the first place :D

Hood,

Yes, you understood exactly what I was asking :) So both the supply and control are 24V. Thanks.

Thanks Russ.

Hood, probably for you: in the first photo, the header on the left looks like the 24VDC supply, and the one on the right looks like the control. What would the control be? Will it work with 5V?

Hey, Russ, thanks for that!

You are without a doubt in the avant-garde, Hood!

Thanks for the link!

Hood,

So the Scorpion works with Mach3? With the Scorpion you are using one network card, what did you need the second one for? Do you have your PC connected to a network?

Where are you getting those panel buttons from?
