General Mach Discussion / Re: CPU maxed out with R3.042.20
« on: January 14, 2009, 01:51:31 PM »
i had the same watch dog trigger error when i connect my xp computer on the internet to do a windows update. the file size doesn't seem to matter. i format the hard disk and install again xp with service pack 2 and the problem dissapeared. i think the problem came with service pack 3 or some of the more recent update

General Mach Discussion / thread problem
« on: January 14, 2009, 01:27:14 PM »
hi all

iM trying to cut a thread on the lathe with not much success. the situation is the following: I need to cut an acme thread with 12 tpi and 6 inch long on a 1.5 inch ss304 shaft. my lathe is equiped with a vfd on the 7.5 hp spindle motor and ac servo motor on x and z axis. i first tried to cut the thread with the 1 pulse/revolution index and the thread wizard. the problem is that the tool doesn't seem to hold its accuracy over a long thread. the thread is good for an inch and gets thinner as the z distance gets larger, after 6 inche there is no more thread on the shaft! the first thing i did was to change from index to timing with a 6 pulses/rev, and do spindle tunning. I then increased the speed from 400 to 700 rpm with lighter cuts. while the thread is cutting i keep an eye on the actual speed dro and it is on the spot and very stable. Any idea what cause the z axis to drift with distance? The starting point of the thread is always perfect. the infeed angle is set to 14 degrees.

one strange thing i've noticed is that on the first pass the tool is cutting air and the x axis is moving slowly in the plus direction over the 6 inchs distance!!
I'm using mach 3 ver. 3.042. it is installed on a newly formated computer with nothing else on it.

General Mach Discussion / wizard
« on: December 10, 2007, 04:31:54 PM »
hi,

is there an easy way to chain several wizards together to make a complete part (lathe)? or is there a third party plugin that will do something similar, like a recorder? if not, is it possible for me to program one and integrate it into mach3?

General Mach Discussion / Re: machine coordinate

ok, i found the problem.

i am using the silver blue set of screen, and in the manual screen, the machine coordinate and part coordinate buttons are switched. if someone knows how to fix that issue it would be great to update the file in the download area.

General Mach Discussion / machine coordinate
« on: November 24, 2007, 02:40:10 PM »
hi all,

i am using mach3 on a lathe that i've just finished the cnc conversion.  i've set the x and z drives to go home at power up. so the limit switches are on the drives not on mach3. on the software i use the soft limits, and it works fine. when the axes are at home, i reset the machine coordinates and then i can move the axis whithin the soft limits and the software will not allow the machine to move outside the limits, and this is what i want. the problem is when i set the work zero. then the machine coordinate and the soft limits apear to move to the same spot. for example when the z axis is at home (tailstock) the machine coordinate is set to zero, if i move the axis to the left at -10 and then set the part zero z, i can no longer move to the right of that point because the soft limits now apply to that new location, neither can i see the original machine coordinate.  is there a way to have the machine coordinate stay set to the same spot for the whole session?

I've check every screen and config menus, and still cannot find that toggle. can you tell me the exact screen and exact label of that switch please? it seems rediculous that i cannot fix such a simple issue after everthing else works!!

General Mach Discussion / soft limits
« on: November 16, 2007, 09:56:04 AM »
Hi all

I set up my lathe with a home switch on x and z axis connected to the servo drives. when i turn on the drives, it homes the axis right away. then, i reset the machine zero in mach 3. my z axis has 30 inchs travel (machine 0 at tailstock) and i would like to use the soft limit on the other end. when i set up the z max to 0 and z min to -30, i can still jog the axe past the limit! are these limits only working when running a program?

sometimes you are proud of you, sometimes not! the old computer has a pin set up for the charge pump, and i forgot it while configuring the new one!

same address 378.

is there a way to test the parralel port other than hooking a printer that i don't have on hand? the lpt1 properties page says everything is fine
