dspMC/IP Motion Controller / MPG Support, IndexPulse Homing and more
« on: December 24, 2008, 03:00:47 PM »
Updated the web page with latest software for DSPMC that will support MPG and Homing with Index pulse and/or home sensor.  Don't forget to checkout the PID Graph tool to see response of your drive in real time.

The new MPG update allows encoder hooked up directly to DSPMC, providing real-time MPG response. No more buffered motion.

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Re: Tuning dspMC with Axis Works.

I can see the problem now.  Your input index is 0 for axis 1.  this is not correct.  Input index must be same as the axis number.  only for slave axis it is different.

page 41:
A.7 ControlInput Index
Defines the index of the PID input source. Normally this is equal to the axis number. For slave application, this
defines the data index of the master.

pls see page 24:

"Scale is used as a divider for all the setting in the PID gain box. This makes it possible for the software to use smaller manageable numbers and still get the same effect.  An example is if you put a gain of 4000 and a scale of 100, it is the same as a scale of 1 and a gain of 400,000."

making the axis move is not just matter of PID values.  Control configuration is also required to be correct.  eg motion source, DAC number, encoder, amp enable pin, etc.  you can change PID values all day long, but if you have not set the DAC number correct for your axis, you will never see any motion.  so the first thing is to make sure your control configuration is correct.  when you run axisWorks and connect to an axis, you will see the current configuration on the bottom right side of the main window in Setup.Axis.? box.  If you see undefined printed there, then you first need to download the proper configuration file to dspmc.

Pls send your dspmc.xml file to the sales address listed on our website so we can see all the settings.

thanks for the feedback.  the graph window is small on the above version.  is that ok?  we will try to put similar features in the new version.

I suggest you first go thru the manual thoroughly, and then send me your specific question.  the latest manual was updated on the web site few days ago.

can you post your settings for the axis control?  send me your dspmc.xml file and I will take a look at it.  have you updated to the latest version available on the web?

The latest version is on the web page www.vitalsystem.com/dspmc.  The above AxisWorks is one of the alpha versions that was buggy.  It was not released for general use.

You do enter PID settings in a separate window.  you don't have to close it while you work with the graph.  leave it open so you can re-enter values and see result in the graph.

Will be updating the manual soon for the latest AxisWork operation.

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Re: Servo amplifiers that work with dspMC
« on: December 02, 2008, 10:17:13 PM »
hi Tom,

I am pretty sure these drives will work fine.  the encoder signal can go to both the drive and the dspmc box.  this way you can get dual loop control, ie, speed regulation thru drive and position control by dspmc.  I have not tested this setup so can't be 100% sure.  One customer is going to use these types of drives and will know the results in few weeks.

thanks
Rufi

pls also post an email to sales _at_ vitalsystem _dot_ com when you post here.  sometime dont get notification.

when you move encoder and don't see any change in AxisWorks display, make sure you have assigned the correct encoder number to the axis.  when you run axisWorks, make sure you download the configuration saved in dspmc.xml file by using the "Download Configuration" button.

also, the latest manual has lot of information available.

thanks,
Rufi

hi,

just uploaded a new version of AxisWorks that will allow you to graph the motion for better PID tunning.

here are some screen shots:

you can download the latest software from the product webpage at www.vitalsystem.com/dspmc.

thanks
