with hicon, the feed hold is instantaneous.  no delay to empty the motion buffer.  If you hit stop, with or without feedhold, the motion will stop right away, but you will have to do "start from here" from a previous line in gcode so mach3 can regenerate the motion data.

hope this helps

HiCON Motion Controller / Re: Single-Ended Encoder?
« on: July 25, 2013, 04:42:54 PM »
Hello Sir,

First of all, K5 is a 3.3V standard connector, so please make sure that the voltage does not go over 3.5V.

For the issue of noise on the encoder channels, you can go to the Plugin configuration (Config->Config Plugins->HiCON Plugin). On the "system" tab page, try setting the encoder debounce to a higher value. To further reduce the noise, you may add 2.2K pull-up and pull-down resistors on the A, B, and Z signals.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

When using encoder feedback, the encoder value is used as a starting point before doing the move. The motion will end once the calculated distance has been passed. Aside from that, the encoder value is continuously checked for max following error. While all this is happening, the Mach3 position DROs show the actual axis position, which is the value from encoder feedback.

Hello sir,

For example if you move the X axis from 0 to 1.00 and it stops at 0.995. If you then move the X axis to 2.00 the controller makes a calculation based on the current position (0.995) to correctly move to the target destination. In that case, the controller will calculate a distance of 1.005 to move in order to get to the next position (2 - 0.995 = 1.005).

Because of this, tiny offsets aren't cumulative.

I hope this answers your question.

HiCON Motion Controller / Re: HiCON Motor Control Question
« on: July 15, 2013, 01:42:28 PM »
Hello Pax,

For the motor outputs page on the software integration manual, we only look at the axis enable variable. All the other values there are not used by our plugin and are ignored.

For your issue, we recommend that you first start with the HiCON.xml sample profile that we have provided on our webpage.
http://www.vitalsystem.com/portal/motion/hicon/HiCON-xml-mach3-profile.zip

To properly set your axis, you would need to:

 - set the axis as enabled in Config->Ports an Pins->Motor Outputs.

 - go to Config->Motor Tuning and set the Counts per unit, Max Velocity, and Acceleration.

 - go to the plugin config (Config->Config Plugins->HiCON Plugin), go to the tab of the axis, and set control input to Machxx, and Control Output to the StepGen you would like to use.

 - if you're using encoder feedback, then you would need to set the Feedback to the proper encoder channel.

 - you can try doing the test motion on this axis config page before you start any other motion.

You can read all of this in more detail in the Software Integration Manual.

the newer firmware does take axis max velocity and acceleration into account with mpg.

hi cnc,

for your 4Beta, we can throw in a free MPG with estop button when you order Integra.  or we can do the 25% off that we had going on some time back.  just mention mpg or the discount in the order-notes when placing the order.

the MPG logic is based on electronic gearing, so it is highly responsive. but to achieve that, the mpg encoder must be connected to one of the controller encoder channels.

ideally you need a time parameter to say how long to keep PID active when axis enable is dropped by mach3.   may be per axis parameter setup.   I will check if we can add this.  can't promise right now but I see it may be doable.
