General Mach Discussion / Re: Machturn probing and setting
« on: November 07, 2011, 01:55:47 AM »
Wondering why you would want to go to all that bother. All you need for Turn is an accurate X axis home switch. I use a proximity sensor and get better repeatability on my small lathe than I did on a Clausing Storm 200 lathe with Fanuc control. Just set all the tools one time this way. No setting required, just home the machine, set your Z axis zero off the stock you just loaded and start machining.

OK, it's like I was saying. These spindle motors will NOT work for you. These are for machining at high speed, in soft materials like wood etc. If the original spindle motor was one of these then Sybil sold you a wrongly configured machine. You need a low speed spindle motor, something that has torque at maybe 1500 rpm for a 1/2" mill cutter. Chip size is an indication of what is going wrong there, I bet you had aluminium wool coming off the mill, far too fine, there were no real chips. Guessing you were trying to run the spindle at low speeds and that is right, there is NO torque down there, which is why a knee mill has mechanical gearing with belts etc.

Yes, mine is the larger 2.2KW one with the ER20 collets. It would have enough power to cut aluminium at half speed, but there is no way that it will cut steel, don't even consider that. Most routers aren't rigid enough to cut aluminium other than sheet pattern work or very small cuts. For the VFD, it works without fault, have had no issues with it at all.
Why did the router about put you out of business if I may ask?

I have one of these on my CNC router. I don't know much about it other than it works flawlessly. Mine has some spindle runout so if you get one check that first. I have run mine for over 100 hours on a single program and no problems. I don't know what the setup is like for the inverter as mine came set from China.

General Mach Discussion / Re: New Computer, now stepping problem
« on: September 29, 2011, 12:33:34 AM »
If you updated Mach with a newer version when you went to the new computer, this may be your problem. I updated to a new version and then couldn't run the same speeds as before for some reason. I just had to set the max motor speeds lower.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Threading on the lathe
« on: September 18, 2011, 12:27:40 AM »
The simple threading wizard uses the G76 flank type feed yes. Sounds to me like you are either; using too long of a threading bar, too small for the thread pitch and as the depth gets deeper it has higher tool contact and starts to chatter, and/or you have the starting thread cut depth set too deep. Also, a lot of guys on here try to thread at stupid RPMs, I dont know all you are doing but keep the RPM to maybe 250 for that thread?

I see no problems with the G code or the setup in the wizard page. And, the wizard is doing what it is supposed to do. I have to believe that your tools are not set right. If you jog to roughly X0.0, is the tip of the tool right at the center of the stock? Not missing steps, after the part run is the tool offset still where it was before you ran the G code? You have the steps per unit set correctly, a 10mm move in the X axis actually moves the tool 5mm, you are in diameter mode.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach3 GCode line limit
« on: June 27, 2011, 02:11:54 AM »
Good job, Alberto, finding a way around the code line limitation! Gee, if we had all thought of that, we could all have Mach3 for free! And then no money to pay for support, upgrades, and all those hard working people who deserve to be paid for their years of work. Nice.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Help with G41/G42 lathe
« on: June 12, 2011, 02:04:52 PM »
I have to say, that I am that confident with Turn, that I will hit the cycle start button on a new program without even looking in the enclosure, and it works every time. As reliable as a Fanuc system for me. And I have run the crap out of my lathe all this year with only one problem I can remember. But yes, instead of Mill getting all the updates, and some might say that the updates being done with Mill is stuff that isn't really absolutely necessary, whereas tool nose radius compensation on Turn is absolutely necessary. Something that could be addressed in a few days maybe?

Yes Mach Turn is a controller, and for the most part works very well at that. For me I guess tool nose radius compensation is part of the machine control, at least in all other controls it is. Thinking that G42 should be fixed by now is not a lot to ask I would think.
