Never seen one but i'd be interested too. Wouldn't milling on a 4th axis be better for that?

Hi Tweakie, Not a stupid idea, now I've converted to cnc I find that 1750rpm is way too slow. Trouble is that it has a 2 speed 380v 3ph motor so buying an inverter is going to cost a fair bit.

Just had a look at the model T Chester does, It does look very similar but has many differences, and luckily I didn't pay any way near that kind of price for it. I'll give them a ring to see what they suggest with the oil.

Cheers

Hi Tweakie, The machine is a ZX7550. See pic below.

Hi, I have a milling machine which is only a couple of years old of chinese manufacture. Since I've owned it the gearbox makes a racket like shaking a tin can full of bolts vigerously. Whilst i'm standing near it I have to use ear defenders to protect my sanity.

Does anyone know of an oil I can obtain in the UK which will quieten the racket down a fair bit.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Encoders, steppers and mach

Although i'm a Mach3 user, I belive that EMC is fully closed loop with encoders although you will need to get your head round installing Linux to use it.

I use separate Mach3 profiles to do this, use mach loader to setup profiles.

Hi, It's not desirable to disconnect power from steppers at any time, position will be lost even just a small bit each time they are shut off eventually leading to
large errors.

Some drivers have an internal current limiting circuit to reduce power when not in motion so if you have one of these drivers, no worries.

If your driver doesn't have this circuit then you should set the current through the stepper to the steppers specs.

Current rule of thumb is if you wrap your hand round the stepper and then count 30secs before pain begins to set in. Then thats fine.

Saying that, A while back when cnc was new to me I built my own stepper drivers to power 3 Nema34 size steppers current at 4amps/phase to retrofit an old mill.
When the steppers arrived I found 8 wires "oh, 4 phases" I thought and then built the drivers to supply 4amps to the 4 phases. Little did I know that the steppers were 2 phase so my current calcs were way off.
So when I do the hold the stepper trick I can only count to 3, Strangely enough though, Until recently the mill had been used nearly every day for my business for nearly 10 years, Its only gathering dust now as I bought another mill and have converted to servo drive.

Hi, I'm glad it's not just me then. I've had a week of weird stuff happening. Still as you say it's not a problem that is serious
I just thought I'd mention it. The drop down box was more of an inconvenience.

But for all that MachScreen is a wonderful program, so much so that I managed to do all the screen work in an afternoon
As before all my work with the screen took days to work out the problems.

Hi Klaus, I uninstalled the old one, there was only one version on the pc. I downloaded the latest version from your website and now the "save" and "save as" lets you have spaces between ie: "ZX Mill.set"

I'm still getting the error box come up though.

I am in no rush to solve this, if no-one else has picked this up then it must be a quirk in my setup.
The set file I am working with below. All recent work on the settings page, just a few buttons with embedded code.

As I attached the file, It just occured that my Mach folder i'm using is called Mach3New as I have 2 versions of mach on the pc.
Would it be the cause?

Cheers
John
