Brains Development / Re: Brain Info
« on: November 06, 2007, 08:25:02 AM »
Much appreciated Brett, I looked at the video's and they are well done as usual, a good starting point.

I'm hoping that as people have a go at compiling a brain themselves they may use this thread to put in info to explain how parts of it work.

This info then could be used to compile a help file or wiki for the Brain developement.

I'm currently working on a Brain toolchanger, I've done the brain but as yet only tested in simulation.

If anyone is interested I could post it in it's untested state.

Brains Development / Brain Info

I've had a go at the brain thing and I think it's a great improvement from VB.

One thing that I noticed is that while people similar to myself who have a grounding in electronics will understand logic circuits, those that do not will be a little confused how to put a brain together as there is no help file or tutorial as yet.

So I've enclosed this picture of what are called truth tables for the logic symbols AND, OR, and Exclusive-OR.

I hope this will be helpful to those who may need them.

All the best.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Error installing latest Mach3 Version
« on: October 21, 2007, 02:12:34 PM »
Ok, I've got a bit further with it, I realised I have an on board audio which should be disabled as I have an audio card fitted. So I disabled the audio in bios and removed Mach3 from computer. It then booted with BSOD, (STOP:0X00000022) . After a couple of F8's into safe mode I managed to get back into Windows proper. I then downloaded Mach3 again just incase I had a duf download. I then installed Mach3 and finally now I have the Mach engine loaded ok.

When starting Mach3 I still get the error msgbox as above.

Now i'm stumped. I've no alerts in hardware manager and the computer is running fine apart from Mach3.

General Mach Discussion / Error installing latest Mach3 Version

Hi, Having a bit of a problem installing the latest version of Mach3.

I am running Win2k sp4 and have recently had to do a full wipe and install Win2k, I have installed Mach3 and driver, rebooted of course and get the blue screen of death. After a couple of these I logged to safe mode and disabled the mach3 pulse engine then rebooted sucessfully and then startup Mach.
I get the splash screen and then an error box that states "ERROR FOUND ART CODE; 4, ATTEMPT RECOVERY."

I then click either yes or no and get a box that states "ERROR STOPPED TIMER".

Has anyone had this problem or do these things just happen to me? lol

Suggestions appreciated.

Cheers

General Mach Discussion / Re: glass scales and servo's
« on: October 15, 2007, 08:50:40 AM »
Nice Idea, like it. The reality is most of us hobbiests have machines with some sort of backlash and as linear scales are now becoming cheaper it would be nice to use them as they provide an accurate position measurement.

If one was to develop a circuit to do the task of switching between encoders, a CD4052BC chip could be implemented. It's a 4 channel analouge switch which has 2 select pins to switch between the 4 channels.

So that would be one way to take care of that task.

Question?
Would the switching action produce a voltage spike that would be read as an encoder count.

I was also thinking of the problem of the time taken between switching from one encoder to the other and the motor not having any control but then if there are no encoder pulse changes then the motor should just sit there.

Is this true?

How can Mach3 control this setup?

Would it be possible for instance, to use the 'Whilst Is Moving' command to implement a macro pump that choses the correct encoder?

I don't see it costing $10,000 but then would something like this work?

I am currently converting a mill to servo CNC using the standard method of motor and encoder but as the machine also has linear scales with DRO it would be a shame not to use them.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Charge Pump Frequency
« on: September 06, 2007, 08:23:57 AM »
If the pic you show is the measurement of your charge pump then it is showing 12.5 kHz correctly. One complete cycle includes a high period (as you have marked between the lines) and a low period. The frequency (f) on the right measures 12.5kHz

I hope this clarifys measuring frequency and is helpful.  ;D

Kind Regards

General Mach Discussion / Re: More inputs or more outputs, you decide.
« on: August 12, 2007, 07:12:14 PM »
What I would like is an in/out card that catered for 2 parallel ports with a choice on the second for pins 2-9  ins or outs and a serial port connection for extra outputs...

Oh and perhaps a small programmable controller so we could configure a tool-changer without Mach doing all the work in a VB script.

and.. and.. and..   ;D

Or could the USB could manage all this?

Hi, Placing a capacitor across a switch will damp any noise spikes which is essentially an AC component and the capacitor will short any AC to the ground wire.

A 0.1uf capacitor is ideal for this and will easily filter mains bourne hum or ripple and some computer noise.

However, using larger values may induce a current spike when the switch is opened/closed.

Long term you may shorten the life of the switch.  1uf is probably not too bad if you only have a 5v high on the switch, I'd still recommend getting some 0.1uf's from RS or Farnell or your local electrical supplier.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Computer CRASHES
« on: August 11, 2007, 04:19:35 PM »
I've been using Mach3 for about a year now and I have found that the only time my computer crashes is when I use the edit g-code and click save when I'm done. It crashes as I click on save. This only happens now and then, sometimes it will go for days without incidence and then I could have a whole day of problems. I put it down to using a 1200Mhz computer which I'm told is a bit slow for a happy Mach3.

You never mentioned what computer you are running, Could it be that you are using a slow computor?

Perhaps someone could tell me whether this matters or not to the crashing problems?

Cheers
