I see, unfortunately I know nothing about their software, but I'm sure they have a great and helpful forum, no?

Sparky, the problem with buying cheap V bits, is that the point of the V bit is not really a true "point" and your cuttings will not turn out correctly. I use the CMT Lazer V Bits and have been very happy with them. I usually wait until they go on sale  ;D

Search amazon for: cmt bit V 1/4

They are a "little"costly, but in the end, they last and you'll be very happy with the quality.

A note on what is best as far as what angle, depends on the application you're doing. What software are you using?

Show"N"Tell ( Your Machines) / Re: Taig CNC Lathe: First Run...
« on: November 11, 2010, 02:22:03 PM »
An update for my little Taig Lathe.

Finally got my RPM setup up to speed (lol!!) and thought I'd share a couple of pics. Thanks to Arturo (http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/) and Peter Homann (http://www.homanndesigns.com/store/) for helping me figure out what I needed to do this right.

Also wanted to thank SimonD for his posting of his guide for setting up the Speed control : http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,6707.20.html

I can now, with the flick of a switch, run my motor manually, or through Mach 3 control.

You can also see the index plate I made (one with the many holes in it  ;) ) , but I still have to make the spring loaded engaging pin that will allow the spindle to be held in position.

Thanks,
Dave

nice job Dave, but that red cap won't protect the jewels when you run into it. ;)

ROTFLMAO!

Indeed it won't, but I can't get myself to cut it off, because if I do, I just know down the road I'm going to wish I didn't so that I could implement it somehow, lol!

Couple of updates on the Router table.

Finally got the framing completed and the jig plate cut and drilled/counterbored for the top. Had to make a piloted counterbore from a 1/2 endmill for the buttonhead cap screws. Worked really well and didn't take me for a ride once!  :D

Also got the 8020 T Track and HDPE spoilboard cut and drilled/counterbored as well.

Thanks,
Dave
