General Mach Discussion / Re: trying to add a vacuum table
« on: March 22, 2009, 09:31:28 AM »
Hi Josh,

I don't know a huge amount about this subject but I can try to help with what I do know.

The pumps come in different varieties such as oil-filled type, diaphram etc. I have dual diaphram type that pulls around 20-23 HG's which is the measurment for vacuum. You didn't mention what kind of vacuum table it is and you never mentioned what you're cutting and how much force you'd need. Personally, I'm not machining steel, just plastics and engraving anodized aluminum and such so I don't need a whole lot of holding power. For engraving, I have made nesting fixtures that hold the part to be engraved so it can not move laterally and the vacuum pulls it down (that you probably saw in Richs link that he posted). I also have a vacuum grid table that I've made and uses an 1/8 O ring material as a gasket and I have parallells that I calmp all around the part if I'm doing surfacing of materials.

Give us some more info and a background on what you're doing with this and maybe I can help a bit more.

VB and the development of wizards / Macro ref to Machine Coords?
« on: March 22, 2009, 08:54:44 AM »
Hi Guys,

I have a simple macro that I have a "load" button all set up for. It's to position my table for loading material and I've tried using a simple code but it's using the part coords as a reference, not the machine coords. Needless to say that is going to change my "load" position depending on where the current part is being cut on my table.

I'd like to be able to hit the "load" button, and have it go to the same position every time, how do I do this in the code?

My simple code is as follows:

code" z-.500 x-5.5 y-3.500"

Thanks,
Dave

Very cool, thanks for sharing, Brett.

One question for you, do you know if these new versions be customizable in Scream 4?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Bill,

I will not get into a debate with those downplaying the accuracy of the Laser for mill work as I agree with them 100% and have always said so. The reason I have one is because some jobs of mine are just a bunch of parts laid out and cut on a sheet of material, and what's a better, faster (and cooler!) way of finding the corner of the sheet than a laser  :) ?? Especially when it's such a cheap thing to do. The lines are about .010" so that gives you an idea of the limitaions with this device.

For doing pre-squared up parts, I'll either use an edge finder or the touchplate I have and that's as accurate I need to be with this tiny mill (within .001").

The crosshair laser can be found here:

Hope that helps!

WHERE DID YOU GET THAT LAZER AND LAZER HOLDER

I actually made the laser holder out of black delrin and I got the laser from some online store in china or Japan. I'll have to look for the link and get back to you.

Oh, and please stop yelling at me with all your capital letters -  ;) :D
