No frustration with us, Nicolas, I just know how hard it is to pick this stuff up, so I can sympathise with you.

So glad you got the beast working!  ;)

Very cool Gerry, looks like you're moving right along now.  :)

May I ask what you think of the LoveJoy couplers? If you went to buy a new set would you still buy those or possibly it's too early to tell?

I'm debating whether or not to buy the helical, the Oldham, or the LoveJoy types.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Nicolas,

Quote
No I did not set Z=0, I don’t see any setting for that in LC but I do set the router bit to touch the work surface and then 0 the DROs. Where do you set the Z=0 in LC?

If you look in my picture I posted before, it's right above the "Cut Depth" box  ;)

I have input my location in my profile but it doesn’t show when I make a post and I don’t know why either. Goes along with many other things I don’t know lol.

When updating/changing your profile, you have to make sure you click the "Change Profile" button at the bottom of that page.

Hi Nicolas,

Quote
N35 Z0.1000 goes (goes 1 thou below surface)

.1000 is one hundred thousandths, not one thousandths.

I was looking at your LCam file before and I saw under "Cut Depth" that you have .125 units (it shows in blue text which means it's above the surface).

It should be "-.125 units" in black text which means it will be below the surface.

Now that I'm looking at your gcode, I do not understand you do not have .125 depth anywhere in your GCode. Did you click the "set layer" button in LCam when you input the depth?

Nicolas, where are you located, maybe I can call you and help you with this?

Kolias,

You have your cut depth at .125 which is "above" the surface of the material.

You'll need to set it to: -.125   as shown in the picture that I posted in reply #5  in this thread but I'll show it here again for you:

Hey Dave, how about making a couple of them in wax and sending them (with a bit of cash) to Chris to be cast ?.  ;)

Tweakie.

Ya know it's funny you mention this. I may actually end up getting into this more and more as time goes on. Not a business or anything like that but it would be nice to find someone locally that could cast things for me.

Besides, Chris is busier than hell, I'm sure he doesn't want to fool with some idiot from my side of the pond  :)

Steve,

How about this, since you can not save in the AutoCAD 11/12 ASCII dxf  version, how about trying a free CAD program that will. You can still create your drawing in Alibre but after you've saved your file to dxf, open it up in ProgeCAD, and then just save it as a AutoCAD 11/12 ASCII dxf, and see if that helps you. The worst that can happen is it doesn't work and you just uninstall the CAD program  :)

Don't let the fact that this program scare you because it's free. It's a very powerful program and in most cases, it has way better luck opening all kinds of dxf types that the "real" AutoCAD won't.

The download link is at the bottom of the page under: DOWNLOAD progeCAD 2008 Smart!

Hope this helps out.
