General Mach Discussion / Re: Joining_linear-rails?
« on: April 29, 2008, 06:37:45 PM »
Hi Gary,
Anything is possible. the trick might be to make sure you have identical linear rails (!) and accurately machine a surface to mount them on. The best method is to have the rail mounts machined in position on the machine bed.  This can be easily done be an engineering company with a large mill.  Can be expensive but it is worth it.  Because the mounting rails will then be accurate and true, anything you mount on the rails should also be spot on. ( or as near as you can hope for. ) The key to accuracy is rigidity - make the frame solid and everything else follows. Having an accurate face and edge for the rail to mount against should enable you to add rails end to end.

I have found a copy on the downloads - thanks.  It was not in the mach3 folder.

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 screen designer - where is it?
« on: April 17, 2008, 05:11:59 AM »
Has screen designer been included in the latest Mach3 version. According to the video tut. a shortcut should be installed on the desktop.
Cant find it anywhere there or in my mach 3 program folder.

General Mach Discussion / Manual Tool Change
« on: April 16, 2008, 07:21:50 AM »
I hope I am not going over old ground.

I would like to experiment with manual tool changes on my router.

ie. the program calls a macro to allow the spindle to be moved to a set position so that I can change the cutter.   Then the tool height needs to be sensed by touching a known point that tells mach3 to calculate the z offset to match the correct tool height . The spindle should then move to the return point in the program to continue the cut file.

Is this an inbuilt feature of mach3 ( "settings"' panel?)
How can it be configured?

I will be ordering the spindle in a couple of weeks - bills to pay.

I am installing dust extraction at the moment. 1200cfm 4" system that should work ok.

I am wondering if SAKA can supply Vacuum hold down systems? I will ask in my next email.  They are noisy and suck allot of power.

oeSoeraa,

I have recieved my quote for the entire spindle system including cooling water pump -- A$910

I have just posted my first ever UTube video (  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXiN70j658Y   ) of the first file I cut on my machine last week. It will be fantastic

when I replace the very temporary Ryobi with the new spindle.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Is there a simple 3-D program I can use
« on: April 11, 2008, 02:59:36 AM »
Rhino 3D is very intuitive to learn.
It also has a great contextual help file.
It doesn't take long to learn either.
It also exports into any file type you needand it is a true 3D nurbs surfacing application.
