I usually take about 1/2 inch bites at around 250-300 ipm. If it is doing CV stuff i have to run about 220 ipm, any faster or slower I get the dredded jerks.

Thanks!  I was worried about it too. I added 140lbs of lead to the end of the z tube to help with resonances work pretty well. The z is really heavy and the steel is 1/4 inch thick so it is pretty burly. I can take a 3/4 cut out of mdf with a 1/2 by 2" carbide router bit at 300+ ipm. The z its self is really pretty rigid.

I don't know how much total... We stopped keeping track. Somewhere around a new Bmw 328xi.

I am redesigning my 5 axis head this winter, the only problem is there is a certain software that i love that doesn't yet support 5 axis

The last couple of years have been pretty dry around here too. About a year ago things started to turn around.
The crazy thing about Colorado is in a week and a half this will all be gone and it will be in the 50's. This is a once in a couple of year snow storm..  But it is a nice break. The entire city was shut down today.

Yea feed hold can be funky. I think art was looking at this. I have snapped a $65 1/2 x 2" solid carbide end mill on my metal mill trying to resume a feed hold. It took off trying to cut 1.75 inches into alum at around 16 ipm, thank god it headed away from the part. It was with a grex and i figured it was just another grex hiccup. I guess it is a mach thing.

Are you running any other programs with mach? Perhapse something that is looking for a dongle on the parallel port? Like maybe visual mill?

I have seen this pop up on the yahoo forum.
