Good morning Guys, further to my anquiries it results you were both right, it was backlash. I have restted the ball nut and all is up and running again.
Thanks Guys Marting

General Mach Discussion / Re: Holes resulting with ovality

Hi there again, I have re-calibrated the squareness / perpendicularity between the X and Y axis and are now spot on. Following that I executed many tests and with different approaches but still with same results. I am now suspecting that it may be a Mach3 software issue, as I had it upgraded from version R3.038 to R3.043.066 about 5 months ago and that other than that nothing else has changed. I am also attached are photos showing what is happening maybe some here may have an idea why these deformation indicated by arrows are occuring.
Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Re: More inputs and outputs needed in Mach3
« on: December 27, 2015, 07:06:40 AM »
I've been trying to get in touch with CNCdrive by email for the past week now but no answer or email receipt confirmation. I know it's the festive season and that they might not even be at the offices but to be honest I am starting to question if these are real or not. At least they could have done an "Out of office" notice.
Any idea what would be the delivery times from date of order and what is the after sales support looks like (i.e. is it ok)?
Thanks
Marting

Hi to all.
I've been reading this post as I have build my CNC router 10 years ago with Rutex servo drivers and like you have had these problems, particularly interference. The most important thing is to ground ONLY at one end of the shielding, don't connect or bridge from another end and the most important is to ground at the power supply. This has been my experience both as a CNC hobbyist and as a professional at work.

I too am planning to build my second CNC and since Rutex (the place I bought my servo drivers) are no longer functional, have been looking at CNCdrives, from what I see and read, these look sturdy, however have not seen much posts on the forum of how others who bought are doing with them.

Hi Magicniner,
I've further run some test cuts to verify the source of problem by elimination. It seems that the encoder wasn't defective after all and it results that I've got a teeny weeny problem of squareness between the X and Y axis. After having cut a rectangle (570mm x 450mm) and measured the diagonals, I found a difference of approx 0.3mm. At first I wasn't quite sure but after having simulated the same situation on CAD it shows that this little difference could indeed produce the results I've experienced :o. I'll be trying to rectify this next Monday and will post the results. Thanks for the support.

General Mach Discussion / Holes resulting with ovality
« on: December 26, 2015, 05:04:00 AM »
Hi Guys, I been experiencing some problems lately with "deformed" cutting paths and have replaced one of the encoders, as I thought it might have got dirty or something. Now I have made a trial run by cutting 9 holes on a matrix of 3 x 3 and diameter of 15 mm but am not happy with the results. Following measurements, an ovality it resulting, measuring at one position I get 14.78mm and 15.21mm in perpendicular position. Could it be that I need to lower the motor speed in the "motor tuning ans setup" dialog or maybe recalibrating the ball screws?
Has anyone ever came across such a situation, any advise?
Thanks

Hi everyone, I'm considering to build a second CNC router and just wanted to know if anyone has any comments and or experience to share with CNCdrive.com servo drivers before I start buying anything. In my first build I used Rutex which I found very reliable but ever since they closed down (or at least that is my impession) I considering CNCdrive which also look sturdy. Your comments pleaase.

Hi Hood, First of all I would like to thank you so much for the support and patience that you have had with me. I have made the changes as I mensioned by changing pin configuration and in worked out fine. Further more it seems that there is an issue with the PCI port setting as you have pointed out, but for the time being is not of major issue since I am up and running.
Thanks once again

Very well, so now that I know that Mach version should not be an issue, that eliminates 1presumption. Now ... regarding the breakout board that I have is simply a printer cable with pins soldered on one end and are then connected directly to the switches, hence I don't think that it qualifies as a breakout board. Therefore I have to presume that I need to set Printer Port 2 to EPP, which I have no idea how to do this or what it means. Just in case my preceding idea of re-allocating different pin outs for the encoder does not work, can you please elaborate a bit on the EPP term and how to do this?
Thanks
Marting

Yes, I have tried Active high as well. I am suspecting that iether I need to upgrade to the latest version of Mach3 or else I will have to use to original input pins 10, 11, 12, 13 and 15 (as it states at the bottom of the window in the "Input Signals"). The problem is that pin 10 & 11 are occupied by the fine positioning encoder and pin 12 is occupied by the probe. Now I will try to use pin 13 for the Start and 15 for the Stop commands but would still fall 1 switch short for the Z axis auto zero command. On the otherhand .... now that I'm thinking of other possibilities ..... maybe another alternative is reroute/declare other pins (eg pin 2 & 3 of port 2) in the Encoder/MPG's window for the fine positioning encoder ..... I think this should work!!! I'll keep you posted.
In the mean time, any remarks or ideas are always welcome.
Thanks
Marting
