Tweakie,
Actually, the machine you just described is called a hammer mill, it does not work under the same principle of a shredder.

A shredder has 2 or 4 counter rotating shafts fitted if shear blades, instead of crushing the metal, it gets pinched between the blades and gets sheared.

watch that

well from what i can say, the power supply and drives are limited for those stepper motors,
10TPI is a lot of gearing reduction and still you are not able to move reliably.

Although 10tpi qould require high rpm from the stepper to produce acceptable speed rates. You would need 500rpm to get 50ipm which i doubt you can get with noticable torque at those voltages.

Just a quick thought.

You say your stepper motors are 24v... at what voltage are you driving them?

Steppers are supposed to be driven at somewhere between 20 and ive heard sometimes 35 times their acutal voltage.

There is a lot of shredder footage on the internet on shredders, from aluminum cans, to boats and automobiles.

I was looking for information on something that could chew up scrap sheet metal.
I was kind of trying to figure out the RPM of the hammers, the material of the hamers, how are the hammers held in place once they are slid in the Hex shaft.... stuff like that.

its really impressive to see them work.

Hello guys,
Anyone here has some experience working with shredders for metal?
Im really interested in some of its key characteristics.
Please let me know if anyone knows anything about them.

Best regards

Hey GUys,
Well adding to the other thread of where you live...
I live in Mexico just a 2hr drive from the texas border.

Im just 28, and by trade I am a mechanical and electrical engineer, that used to have a Kitchen countertop fabricating business, but recently closed it, and starting to build OEM machines, mainly things that you cant buy off the shelf, or that by doing so it would cost a fortune.

Fluent in spanish and english, and just some portuguese, but to be honest i tried giving support to the spanish forums but cant understand a word they are saying! spanish from spain is like a whole other language when talking about technical stuff.

Hell Im so used to working with things in english that most of the time i think in english

Have a good one

Well yea... for compensation in mach you would have to translate it to the input.

But actually i was looking for that info for gearbox selection :)

Ok, read a little before going to bed.

According to Neugart, the backlash stated in all catalogs is measured on the low speed side, so on a common application of reducing the rpm output of a servo, the backlash is measured in the output.

So there you go
