Tangent Corner / Re: Gantry vs Bridge
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:07:16 PM »
Hello,
I dont think a bridge type machine has a reduced capacity due to the fixed bridge. Both Machines "could" have the same capacity if designed correctly. The only thing is that as a ficed bridge requires a moving table, the machine requires a larger footprint to accommodate the movement of the whole table.

For smallish travel, Id go for a fixed bridge, since it could be built a lot more rigid than a gantry machine.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mirror image
« on: January 25, 2011, 11:50:56 AM »
I think it is not right, all of the machines i have worked with follow the cartesian coordinate system.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesian_coordinate_system

although there is debate on which axis should be the long axis and which the short axis, but either way they must follow the cartesian coordinate.
up is x+
down is x-
left is y-
right is y+
of course up down, left and right depends on where are you standing on the machine, but the sequence should be the same.

Most likely you have one axis reversed, figure out which axis is cutting the wrong way, and then go to the Homing/limits menu under the config menu, and check the reversed checkmark.
If you have a homing sequence, check to see if it still works, if it starts to home in the other direction, go to the same menu and click on the home negative.

Great piece of software right there...
just a suggestion, would it be possible to add geneva mechanisms?

Hello Dave,
just posted this too on cnczone...
I had posted on the gecko yahoo forum , that is where I got the short the pins answer... just wanted to know if this is good practice.
Thanks

Tangent Corner / Disabling single axis on G540
« on: December 14, 2010, 08:19:44 PM »
Hello guys...

I have the need to disable one drive from a G540 from geckodrive... the LPT port does not give access to the enable pin on the drivers inside the G540.

I was suggested by someone that I could short the current limiting resistor pins to be able to freewheel the stepper motor. Is this a good idea?
Thanks

Tangent Corner / water saving device?
« on: December 11, 2010, 06:44:14 PM »
Hello Guys,
I stumbled upon this:
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=es&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.promopublimail.com%2Fvideominter%2Fvideominter.html

it is a device that is installed before a water meter, what it is supposed to do is remove air from water mains, which is billed as if it was water, and therefore reduce your water bill.

Haven't tried it, has anyone else heard of has any idea if they work?
they retail at about 150dlls

Regards
Fernando
