Thanks tweakie,

Well... I am not looking into designing a new aircraft from scratch... actually the Cozy, and the long ez are based on designs from Burt Rutan, If I am not mistaken, they were licensed by him.

I have seen many kits built... and even hundreds of made from plans like the Cozy and long Ez (if not thousands). Most of the builders rely on hand molding, and buying some of the parts.
I just think that our community relies on a lot of skill and resourcefulness that would help the build be easier.

Have a great week
Fernando

full size planes. there are several kits out there. and a few built from plans. most of the from plan builds are composite which use some foam cores and fiberglass/foam sandwiches in a technique Burt Rutan came up with.
you can google some of the planes names, here are a few:
cozy mark 4 www.cozyaircraft.com/
varieze
long ez
vision and freedom www.pro-composites.com/
to name just a few

Tangent Corner / Homebuilt planes!
« on: November 04, 2011, 02:08:33 PM »
hello Guys,

Has anyone ever fiddled with the idea of a homebuilt plane... either from a kit or plans based?

All kinds of people are building this things... I imagine it would be a lot easier to do if you had access to a CNC hot wire cutter, cnc router and/or cnc mill.

thanks
Fernando

For anyone considering a Belt drive... I recommend looking into this thread at the zone:

http://www.cnczone.com/forums/linear_rotary_motion/59570-best_belt_drive_ever_if.html

There is a lot of information to digest in that thread but it is a very ingenious system which I believe would work very good,
It eliminates most of the belt stretch and the vibration in the belt which Jen mentioned.

Jen, by the sound of your comments, you are more of an engineer than a few engineers I know.

Take a look i think you'll like it

Tangent Corner / Anyone here has EDM machine?
« on: March 01, 2011, 05:07:15 PM »
hello guys,
Im looking for someone that has an EDM machine that could manufacture a couple of parts for me.

This is a failry simple job, if you have the equipment.
Im attaching a PDF drawing of what is needed.

Just two parts are needed.
Critical stuff, both pieces should mate perfectly so maybe ground surfaces are required. The end of the workpiece where the conical part is, should be ground also.
material is plain steel for now since this is just a prototype, final products would have different outside dimensions and different material.

Anyone looking for some side bucks?
Pls let me know
Best Regards
Fernando

Oh Now I get it,
you want to use the plate as a base, not as the actual worksurface. Then your assumptions of a smaller work envelope are right if you go with a moving table.
Have fun
Fernando
