General Mach Discussion / Found this driver
« on: January 18, 2006, 10:01:37 PM »
Hello,
Im not too proficient with the driver lingo, I currently use Geckos, and im building a second machine. I found this driver its supposed to be AC powered and 7.8 Amps, and microstep selectable to at most 50 microsteps per step.
Would these drivers work with mach 2/3?
Would these drivers eliminate the use of a dc power supply?
Ill attach the pdf spec sheet.

Mach3 and G-Rex / What is a G-rex?
« on: December 15, 2005, 07:48:25 PM »
Hello,
What exactly is a G-Rex, If I have already a control box with power supply, 3 201´s, campbells break out board and steppers, what benefits would a g-rex bring, what else is required to opperate?
Does this device incorporate the use of encoders with steppers? or is this the comented unstallable stepper?
Hope anyone can help

General Mach Discussion / importing DXF files
« on: December 01, 2005, 12:23:25 PM »
Hello,
When importing dxf files, how do you get mach 2/3 to compensate for tool diameter?, how do you get it to know if the profile yoou want to cut should be cut from the inside or the outside?
I guess one way arount it is to offset the geometry in a cad program so the new geometry follows the center of the tool, instead of the outline of the geometry you want cut.

General Mach Discussion / Automatic tool changer
« on: November 05, 2005, 02:44:31 AM »
Hello,
I wanted to add a toolchanger and a tool touch off to my cnc router, I have no idea on how to implement this using Mach3.
Mechanicaly im thinking I would need a columbo splindle, or something similar with a power draw bar.
Set all the tools on a rack with a defined position for each tool.
Im thinking when the programmed gcode asks for a tool change, Mach3 will stop the spindle (M5?), travel to the position in the rack where the tool that is in the spindle should be, put it there, send and output signal to release the powered draw bar drop the tool, move to the requested tool position, send the output signal to engage the powered draw bar, and then move to the touch off plate so the tool offset can be set, and off we go to machining... sounds simple enough... if I just knew how to code a macro for that.
Does anyone have a  macro that does this same thing?
Im not too familliar with the touch off, can the plate be anywhere on the table? or does it have to be at a determined height?
Hope i was not too confusing, my English is not that good.
Greetings from Mexico!!
