General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle Control
« on: January 05, 2008, 06:59:29 AM »
Jim
The VFD is set to external contol, the output from relay on breakout board goes to forward and reverse on VDF. thus code M03 / M04 should control spindle CW / CCW
If I contol spindle manualy the direction is erratic. could it be the relay bounces when I turn on machine?

Thanks   Mike

General Mach Discussion / Spindle Control
« on: January 04, 2008, 12:20:30 PM »
I have retrofitted an old Orac lathe, all is working but the spindle direction is erratic. The motor is controlled via a VFD and is set in correct direction, the VFD  in turn is controlled via a relay on breakout board. When I push spindle button on Mach Turn manual screen the spindle sometimes rotates in opposite direction, If I then turn machine off ( control electronics included) and then on again spindle rotates in right direction.

Anyone got an idea whats causing problem?

Thanks

Mike

Hi David
Thanks for reply, I had an old VFD that came with the machine, so gave up on it and found a new one on ebay.

After playing with a few settings  got Mach to contol spindle, at last

What sort of stuff do you make on you machine?

Regards

Mike

Hi David
I see you have retro fitted a Starturn lathe, did you use a VFD to drive your spindle?

I am trying to retro fit an Orac, but having problems getting the spindle to turn via a VFD,

Can you offer any advice?

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Contol of 4th Axis
« on: December 03, 2007, 06:38:00 AM »
Hi
I am planning to make camshafts for model ic engine. and would like to use rotary table to mill lobes.

How do I contol the 4th axis by degrees,  i.e. make a cut in Y direction, return, rotate table 10 deg make next Y cut and so on.

Thought of useing gear cut wizard but can't figure a way of adapting it.

Anyone got any thoughts? Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Cutting Camshafts

Hi
I have an idea to use my 4th axis to cut camshafts for model I C engines, but need help to go about writing G code.

Has anyone else cut a camshaft on a mill?

The easy route would be to cut indivedual lobes and thread them onto a shaft at appropreate angles, pinned and locktite.

Thanks

Arnie & Chip

All sorted, I seem to have a different version, as the lathe file is an red flash with yellow M3 icon marked 1024 and no extension, which is very confusing as mill & plasma have usual icons !

However the extra wizards are now in the menu,am sure will be usefull

Thanks for help

Arnie

Yes I have put the files in the places you recommend, but I have lost the Turn screen If I go to Veiw/load screens I can get mill screen, but can't find turn screen.

Thanks
