General Mach Discussion / Lathe motor question "Variable Speed"
« on: April 18, 2008, 07:22:41 AM »
Ok  more advice needed.

I am starting converting my lathe shortly, it is single phase 240 volt. Harrison M250

I want some control over the spindle speed, what is the best way to get this regardless of cost. Cheaper options will be considered also.

Any links to circuits for spindle speed encoders also welcome.

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Stepper wiring scenarios
« on: April 05, 2008, 07:50:49 PM »
In addition to the other thread could someone shed some further light on the situation, as I'm always keen to get a better system.

So could someone give a Pro' N' Cons answer with wiring description for each method of wiring Steppers, 8 wire in my case.

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Lathe conversion question
« on: March 02, 2008, 10:29:44 AM »
My next project is a lathe conversion, but i want to be able to move the axis manually also.

But what extra equipment is required to get the encoders to move as i move the axis.

The best way to describe what im after is to use mach as a dro when im moving manually

Thanks

Forum suggestions and report forum problems. / Bug
« on: February 29, 2008, 06:12:04 AM »
I am using the 2.63 lockdown and amhaving a problem with a softlimit error "Z MAX" i knew this to be incorrect.

I found that i had a length offset that shouldn't have been i removed it and still had the problem.

I cleared the error by closing the gcode and then reloading it when it then worked fine

I have also sometimes been able to just clear an error by "edit the gcode" scroll to the end close gcode and that also will clear the error.

Mach is somehow retaining stuff in cache memory ?

I am learning bit by bit and have had the Auto Tool Zero  macro Written by Scott working great, along with a probe being sold on here.

Now the important bit, if you leave a tool loaded with a negative height setting the tool will come down the extra amount unexpectedly with predictable results.

I have added a G49 as my first line of code and this will remove the offset.

Maybe this should be added as a fix in the routine G31 to set using tool 0 as the default setting

You have been warned.

I'm off to get a new stylus now

Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / New Wizard "Write/Engraving"
« on: January 25, 2008, 04:13:28 AM »
Hi i would like a write wizard please. I have been using the free one but i want more  control over the positioning of the text. Mainly i want to be able to set the ref point to be in the centre of the text similar to centre justification.

I would buy the New Fangel for this feature alone.  ;D

Thanks
