General Mach Discussion / Re: spindle speed control
« on: February 14, 2011, 03:26:29 PM »
Guys, Thanks a million for all the help. I ended up getting a Super PID speed control, changed the router to a Bosch Colt, bought the precision spindle and finally got it all changed. I'm now trying to figure out exactly how to control it with Mach 3, but it seems to be amazing. The speed controller will allow me to run the spindle anywhere from 5000 to 30000 RPM. I've even gone as far a running the router at 5000 rpm and while it was running I shoved a piece of 3/4" hardwood into it and it never slowed down. The reason I changed to the Bosch Colt is that the company (link above) does not sell Percision collets for the Porter Cable trim router (it's too sloppy of a router and they decided it wasn't worth making percision collets for).
Now I'm off to see if I can figure out how to control the PID with Mach 3.
Thanks again for the help.

Dave

General Mach Discussion / spindle speed control
« on: December 09, 2010, 05:45:53 PM »
I really don't know where to start this, but I'm going to give it a shot and hope one of you genius can point me in the right direction. I'm running a home built mill machine for mostly woodwork. I'm driving the bits with a Porter Cable Trim Router. Been running it for about 3 years and it works well. I'd like to have control over the spindle speed but have no idea what it would take. I'd also like to be able to use different diameter bits (Other than 1/4"). If any of you have any input it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

General Mach Discussion / Deep cut trips the reset
« on: September 21, 2007, 07:32:19 PM »
When I set my depth of cut anything over about .125 the machine tends to trip the reset.  I'm running the Xylotex system on a Sylsolva machine that I built. Anyone have any ideas?
