Dear All,
             There is already a plugin for Mach3 to work with Galil motion control boards. Has anyone
described in detail how this communication works, and if they have, can someone please point me
to where it is?

Aren't you forgetting one option for servos, Mesa AnythingIO board and EMC2?  :-)  I know that Linux freaks people out though.:-)

Hello Smurph,
                     I asked a question in the general section of the forum and someone suggested I ask you, so here goes.
I think Galil boards are very expensive and I know of a PCI motion control board made by a company called Mesa
Electronics   www.mesanet.com   The board is a 5i20    I have no idea how Mach3 communicates with the Galil
board, so please go easy on the technical details at first. This board can be used with a bit of software you may
or may not have heard of called EMC2, which runs under Real Time Linux.
Any and all help, advice and info. gratefully received.

Dear All,
             Don't know if this is the correct place to post this, but here goes anyway. As I understand it, Mach 3 has a plug-in or driver, I don't know which, to interface to a Galil motion control board or boards. The questions are these:-   Is the communication protocol between Mach 3 and the Galil board open to be looked at and studied?  I assume that the Galil boards are PCI based? The reason for these questions is that I think Galil products are very expensive and I have seen a PCI motion control board for a fraction of the cost of a Galil, but it will obviously need a new driver or plug-in writing to communicate with Mach 3.  I don't know if I'm clever enough to do this either.  Any comments and advice gratefully received.

Dear All,
            I have just seen a unit made by Vital Systems called a dsPMC/IP and on their website claim that this unit is fully supported
by Mach3, but I can find no mention of any support on this forum.  About 6 months ago a member called alfredo6673 posted the
same question and got no response. This unit looks very good but if there is no Mach support for it then it's useless to me.
 Anyone care to comment?

Thanks for the reply Poppabear. Ithink I wasn't specific enough with my question though.
I probably should have said  " Does Mach 2/3 support this board using pins 2 thru 9  AS INPUTS ? "

            Can I suggest someone much more knowledgeable than me take a look at Mesa Electronics

           Their Anything I/O board 5i20  may be of interest to you. It uses an Xilink FPGA which you can download a multi axis servo control program to and much cheaper than a Galil !!!! BTW, I have no link at
all to Mesa Electronics,they are in California and I live in the UK.  I found out about this hardware from the
EMC2  website and forum.   IMHO, the main thing missing from Mach 2/3 is lack of support for servo driven systems.

Dear All,
            My first post on this forum  :)   I have been looking at Mach2/3 for some time now and I have been asked to retrofit a Bridgeport Series 1 CNC which has big stepper motors on it. The board mentioned above from CNC4PC claims it is capable of using pins 2 thru 9 as inputs. Does Mach 2/3 support this board ?
