General Mach Discussion / 3 Kw Ac Servos
« on: September 30, 2008, 01:41:49 PM »
Hi All

I have the opportunity to buy a big vertical boring mill for very little.

It has 3 kw Axis motors on it but they are AC Servos.

Would Mach be able to control these motors and if so what hardware would be required

General Mach Discussion / Runaway Servo motors Gecko Drive 340
« on: September 28, 2008, 02:51:42 PM »
Once I turn on the system and press the reset switch (Err/Reset and ENC+ ) The motors start by themselves I must have something wrong on the control side of the drive but I have no idea where to look. Any help would be appreciated.

General Mach Discussion / Gecko 340 Fault Light
« on: September 28, 2008, 12:48:25 PM »
Hi All

I have finally got round to wiring up my gecko drives. When I power up the system the fault light on the Gecko Drive will not go out. I have Err/Reset & ENC+ wired via a reset switch.

Should the system be grounded or earthed.

Does anyone have any ideas about what is wrong

General Mach Discussion / Heat Sink for Gecko 340 Drives
« on: September 24, 2008, 09:38:56 AM »
Hi all

I am building a panel for a digitizer conversion

Do I have to place the drives on a heat sink or can I just bolt them to the chassis plate of the panel and then have a fan blowing cool air over them ?

Thanks

Show"N"Tell ( Your Machines) / Digitizer Conversion
« on: September 21, 2008, 02:11:40 PM »
Hi All

Here is a digitizer that I purchased in the 1990's. Unfortunately the computer that had the drive card (Galil DMC 630) and dongle that drove the software was stolen from my factory. The card could have been replaced but the software that was supplied by Renishaw was prohibitively expensive +- 8000 British pounds.

I now intend to turn it into a router to make patterns for my foundry.

I will fit a new Z axis to the machine on which I will mount a 1kw Highspeed electric Router. The motors which are dc servo are most probably  0.375 kw they are quite small and fit in the palm of my hand.

My question is are these motors big enough to drive a 1Kw Spindle considering that I would only be taking a small depth of cut  +-3mm at a time.
