General Mach Discussion / Re: Shuttle pro V2 problem
« on: August 16, 2009, 08:38:45 PM »
Found the problem, may ba a Mach3 bug. Even though the plug in box showed a check mark in the drop down, the .xml had a 0 for the shuttle plug in. I changed the .xml to show a 1 for the shuttle, saved the xml, and now it works. I haven't tried it all yet, but at least I can now run the axis with the shuttle.

Brian, you may want to check into this behavior.

I'm out of town this week, so I won't have a chance to do more testing 'till next week.

OK, made sure the human inteface wasn't in the device manage, then plugged the shuttle pro in the USB in the rear of the computer. Put the shuttle pro dll back in the plugins folder, fired up Mach3, verified the shuttle pro plug in was there and configured for a couple buttons. Shut Mach down and fired it back up. Same problem, motors grind and table doesn't move. Next step, I'll look at the xml and post it here.

No, just the plug in.

Followed the instructions on the plug ins page and still have problems. If the plug in is in the Plug ins folder, motors only grind and table doesn't move. Remove the plug in dll and all works the way it is supposed to.

I tried it several times, and with a couple different versions of the plug in, and different versions of Mach3 all with the same results.

Next, I think I will try and remove the listing for it from Device Manager, and start over. Idon't understand what in the plug in would impact the stepper motors. I also downloaded the xml editor and will look at the xml file to see if I see anything amiss there.

General Mach Discussion / Shuttle pro V2 problem

Hi all, I posted on the download thread, but figured I would post here also.

I just got a Shuttle pro and am having problems. I've got a licensed version of mach and it has been running my shoptask for over a year. I loaded the shuttle pro plug in, configured a couple buttons, restarted mach and the shuttle will cause the leds to change as if it is working, but all the motors sit and grind with no movement. Tried deactivating the plug in by unchecking it and the same results except the shuttle doesn't do anything, just the normal jog causes the leds to change but no movement. Removed the shuttle dll and restart computer and mach works correctly.

Figured it may be a version issue, so downloaded the latest lockdown of mach and tried again. Tried with the plug in that downloaded with mach, and a couple of the other versions that are on new plug in thread. Same results for all. If the plug in is there, the motors just hum and grind with no real movement. With the dll removed, mach works normally.

Shuttle pro drivers are not installed and when I plugged it into the USB the first time, the pop up saying it was found appeared.

USB port is on the computer, shuttle wire doesn't run near the motor wires, usb port works for other hardware.

any ideas?

OK guys, Ive got a problem that I'm trying to work out. Mach3 loaded and working properly. Loaded the shuttle pro plug in and restarted mach3. Now motors wo't turn. They are making sounds, but no movement. The LEDs for position are changing, but no movement. I configured the shuttle pro plug in for a couple buttens to select axis, and they do select the axis. The wheel will cause the leds to change, but the motors won't move. Turn off the plug in and restart Mach3 and the same thing happens if I try to jog, leds change, but motors don't move, only grind. Removed the shuttle .dll, restarted mach and it works ok (of course, no shuttle pro).

Downloaded the most recent version of mach3 and the shuttle plug in (from this thread), tried with the plug in that downloaded with Mach3, and a couple of the versions here. All had the same result.

This is a licensed version of Mach3, been running it on this machine for over a year with no problems.

Any ideas would help.

David

Jamie,
I also have a Bridgemill with a Camtronics box. If you are still having trouble call Dan at Camtronics. He emailed me a copy of his manual and gave me some ideas for setting my system up. Originally there was a USB cable that gave the +5V for the Geckos. The breakout board in the camtronics box is just a streight thru board with no electronics. If you PC only puts out 3.3v on the PP, it can't drive the Geckos. I switched to a CNC4PC C11G breakout board. This board raises the signals of the PP to 5 v so it can drive the Geckos. One way to check it is to use a multi meter and measure the voltage at the pins on the breakout board when Mach is sending info. It should be at least 4.5 v otherwise you will need a PP that will put out that much or a break out board that will boost the power. Another thing to check is the enable/disable switch. If this isn't hooked up correctly, the system won't output power to the motors.

I've since rewired my box and changed many of the connectors. I have an E stop on the machine between the mill and lathe switches, and limit switches on all 3 axes. Future plans are to change the motors to variable speed and add a motor for the mill lift. I've also got a rotary table with a stepper and a G251 to run the 4th axes. Take a look in the Shoptask section here for more info.

If you still need help getting the system up post and we will try to help.

Not knowing anything about the Xbox 360, is there any other hardware needed if I get a wireless Xbox 360 controller? Looking at the web sites, the Xbox 360 has wireless built into it, what do we need on the PC to use a wireless controller?

Hi,
My name is David Schober, and I am in the process of purchasing a CNC Shoptask Bridgemill used. I hope to have it home in the next week or so. Meantime I am trying to learn as much as possible so when I get it I can dig right in.

I used to run, set up, and programĀ  CNC machines back in the '80s, but a lot has changed since then.

Thanks,
David
