General Mach Discussion / Problem with "Ref All Home"

Hi All,
I have a CNC machine from Marchant Dice or World Of CNC. By and large it has been trouble free for the last few years but in the last few weeks the control box has been acting up and today when I click "ref all home" the Z-axis moves to its limit, the switch is fired (red light comes on), but it then reverses direction and travels downwards making a funny noise. I've cleaned off the homing switches and fiddles with cables, switched things off and on - basically done everything I can. Please help!!
