General Mach Discussion / Re: Replacement Computers
« on: April 25, 2018, 03:08:23 PM »
I changed over to a UC100 and a windows 10 laptop on my router, MUCH better than PP and very easy to setup from a running system.

I don't think the user name/account makes any difference, mine uses a local account with nothing in common with my mach licence and it still recognises the licence file, the windows 7 computer used to run my cnc doesn't use the same username either.

Is your safe z in Mach set to work coordinates or machine coordinates?

Works on my win7 to 10 upgrade for testing code etc, no driver attached.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach3 not for sale in a year or so ???

Can't you run mach without a motion control selected and use the wizards in mach while UCCNC is open? Just do an edit save as from mach and save it to a directory where you can grab it from UCCNC.

I'm running UCCNC on 2 routers right now and I won't be switching back to mach at this point. The CV is just so much better.

Never thought of that. I think I need to get my brain back in gear, too much work and not enough play!

I've just changed to a UC100 and found the change over very easy and smooth apart from a little problem with the a axis not working at first.
I've also bought UCCNC to try but not had much chance yet and also most of my work involves using the wizards in Mach, stuff like thread milling and keyways is easy with the wizards. I guess I could write the same code by hand but I'm an occasional user so forget bits.
I'm not sure if I'd change to mach4 either, 3 seems to work for me at the moment and I'm not seeing any problems with CV on my mill.
However I'm thinking of changing over to UCCNC on my router as that is only used with CAM and goes much faster so I gess it'll take advantage of the better CV in UCCNC.

Is there any stand alone programs you can get that would replace the wizards in Mach?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Fitted UC100 now A axis doesn't work

The people at CNCDrive thought it was probably the older drive not working with the faster pulse settings of the UC100, I'm not going to revert it back to find out though but just thought I'd mention it here in case some one else is looking for a solution in the future.

Thanks for the suggestion and I would have tried that next but.... I tried a new driver and everything is working as it should now. The old driver wasn't one of the Arcerotrade ones I linked to but an older version, problem with building the CNC 3-4 years ago and not having to touch it until now!

Anyway the new driver, which is one of the ones linked to, works fine.

General Mach Discussion / Fitted UC100 now A axis doesn't work

Hi

I'm hoping to get some idea of how to trouble shoot this problem.

I've replaced my old pc with a windows 7 pc and a UC100, everything seemed to be ok but I didn't test the A axis (rotary table) until now.
I've checked the pinouts, enable etc and they all look right and match the old pc.
I've reconnected the old pc and the A axis works as before.

My main XYZ axis use Routoutcnc opto isolated 10 amp drivers http://www.routoutcnc.com/10ampkits.html

The A axiz uses a different driver but it's litriture says it's opto isolated  http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Stepper-Motors/Stepper-Drivers

My breakout board is just the pass through one from routoutcnc shown in the first link and doesn't have opto isolation. I don't have a seperate 5vdc supply in my controller box either, that all came from the parallel port.

I'm wondering if the 5vdc from the UC100 isn't enough to drive the stepper driver from arceurotrade or if there is an earth missing that is on the parallel port.

Everything else seems to work as expected, the homing switches and e stop signal all work with no problem, and typically the first job I want to do with the new pc/UC100 combo uses the rotary table!

Does anyone have any ideas? I have this feeling I'm missing something obvious.

Probebly right there, but I can say I've forgotten more than he's learnt, mainly because I forget everything these days  :D
