Thanks Russ for the link to warp9 .

Looks like the Ethernet version is Mach 4 only and supports backlash.

Craig thanks for the info! Will check out Hicon and ESS

Lots to research here!

I had settled on Mach4 and PMDX-416 motiion controller.

However PMDX told me that this combo doesn't support backlask correction "YET"!!

So what USB controllers support backlash compensation with M4?

bit baffling when you consider that Mach3 supported backlash correction all those years ago

Many thanks for the link!

Just shows how useless the search engine is in SMF

As a precursor to buying Mach4/PMDX setup decided to purchase the little MillWizzard package.

Anyone else using this as I failed to find any hits with the search engine.

I just wanted something simple to generate g-code (without the complexity of Fusion 360 generated code!!)

I have noticed a few quirks shall we say!

Ah Ha, Thanks Daz.

So its just the HTML that's available. No-one has written a book about such things!

Cheers

Mach4 General Discussion / mcLua reference

Reading about macros and scripts and the like. What I can't find is the reference to the mcLua classes, objects and data.

Surely people must go to a source document to find names like

mc.mcAxisSetPos(inst, AxisID, doubleVal)

and

mc.mcSignalGetHandle(inst, mc.ISIG_MOTOR01_HOME)

Mach4 Plugins / Re: Plugin File extensions

Once the files are in the plugins directory then all you have to do is enable the plugin as it is already installed.

Thanks Daz, really appreciate the videos.

I first had to click the ADD button to get into the file manager and as I state above there is a mismatch 'tween the files extensions and the open dialog.

Confusing as hell for a Mach newbee

Mach4 Plugins / Plugin File extensions
« on: January 26, 2018, 05:40:15 PM »
Hi just starting out with the Demo version of Mach4:  4.2.0.3481

Decided to try to load the PMDX-416 driver. Not the easiest but I got the driver loaded into the correct directory: Mach4Hobby\Plugins.

Then tried to add the plugin. Mach4 says the directory does not contain plugins!! What??

Reason simple:

The open dialog box is looking for files *.m4plugw

The actual files are *.M4PW

Spot the bug cn ye?

Hi there allow me to introduce myself.

Will Davis, retired test engineer living in Malahide, Dublin, Ireland. Have been cutting metal as a model engineer since the late 70s on a trusty Myford ML7.

Bought a Sieg SX2 Plus mill and have converted it to CNC. My problem is the controller I have been using (DDCSV1.1, linux based box) is not really capable of running a mill as it lacks a lot of G and M codes. Having spent a lot of money so far I really need something I can trust to interface my Fusion 360 designs to an end-mill.

Some of the g-code output by F360 is not appreciated by my controller!

I certainly don't want to hand edit F360 g-code

So for only $400 or so I intend to get Mach4Hobby and a PMDX-416 USB controller

Exoect a lot of questions!!

Will Davis
