Mach3 under Vista / Re: another issue with possibly with Win7

PS I took Craig's advice among a couple other users and dumped the parallel port thing and went with the UC400 ETH and solved a lot of problems.

Mach3 under Vista / Re: Mach3 with Windows XP
« on: January 23, 2018, 12:59:58 PM »
It is a 32 bit version of XP?  and yes it should have Service Pak3 installed.  My old Lenovo T43 with XP works fine, It was too slow with the parallel port but it worked.  I later upgraded to the UC400 ETH Ethernet controller however.

Since your using an older version of Mach its possible some of your concerns were addressed in the later or final versions.  Once again if Feed Hold is working for others, your controller or the older version might be an issue.  Have you contacted the vender for your controller?

I think Dave just told you, it works fine for him. What is different on your machine or controller than his?  If other people are having the same issue as you,  they would say so.  For me, with just a simple router, Feed Hold works as described per Dave. It runs the buffer out and stops and will restart at the next line.

Windows XP or 7 has a lot of un-necessary stuff that I am sure by now you have turned off.  No internet. no power saving even on the USB and parallel ports, no automatic updates and etc. Yada yada. If not that would be a place to start and I would be using wired everything. To much EMI and RFI in the shop, even florescent lamps can be an issue.

I use System Configuration and have only the barest  minimum amount of background programs loading at Start Up.

The Uc100 is working out beautifully. I lost the space bar acting as feed stop. I need to figure out how to configure it again.

Mine also is working fine, but I have never used the Space Bar for Feed Stop maybe I should do a little more reading!!

Please do not make me watch a Video or read a webpage when in 30 seconds I can find my answer in the PDF.

You can learn more watching a video than reading the manual 10 times.
With software, watching someone do something can teach you things you will never learn on your own.

There's nothing wrong with reading the manual, and everyone should do it. But the videos are indispensable if you really want to learn a lot.

If I have a question I can find it in less than a minute or so in the printed documentation, rarely do I read the entire manual cover to cover. I do not need to watch a 5 minute video. That is one reason I no longer use Fusion 360, they would rather make a video (its cheaper)  than actual documentation which takes writing skills that seem to be lacking in this generation.  Yes this is my opinion FWIW.

BTW when I was teaching we learned there are 7 different learning styles.  What works for one, may not work for others.  We learned to recognize the students needs and help when needed.  I taught for 12 years the skills I learned in the real world over a period of 30 years or so.

The PDF is wonderful.  That is the way I learn, just reading and try something. Please do not make me watch a Video or read a webpage when in 30 seconds I can find my answer in the PDF.  VCarve Pro is what every program should be like, well written pretty easy to learn, yes it has some quirks but I love it.

Ok Here is the answer I received on the Forum and wondering minds might say.....  sure that makes sense to put it under Single Page  ??? ???>

You need to look a little harder. If you bring up "Help Contents" in the help dropdown, it brings up the help system which is a web-based form. At the bottom of the form is a row of items, one of which is "Single Page". If you click on "Single Page", you will then see another prompt at the bottom of the screen that says "PDF Version". If you click on that, then voila - you get all 392 pages of the manual in PDF format.

Do what I did download and then make a Shortcut on your Desktop screen.

Apparently it's hidden very well, I looked for it.

Good tip!

Well it ticked me off every time I used the Help menu and it looked like a web page, I wanted something to read..... like a PDF and I asked for one on the Forum and was given directions on where to download at, when I find those directions and I have looked, I will post.
