Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach4 does not support Unicode?
« on: March 09, 2018, 04:08:52 AM »
There is a new build, 3713, that may help you and those looking for multi-byte character support.  ftp://machsupport.com/Mach4/DevlopmentVersions/Mach4Hobby_Installer-4.2.0.3713.exe

Be aware the LUA strings can contain multi-byte characters, but it cannot properly count the length of such strings.  So be careful if you are using multi-byte characters with LUA.  Things will display correctly, but any string manipulation functions might not work are expected.

Also, the machine.ini in the profile's directory can't be edited and multi-byte characters inserted into it.  It will store them, but they are stored as UTF-8 encoded ASCII.  Once mach reads these, they are then converted to UNICODE.  But if you put a multi-byte character in that file manually with a text editor, it will not be read by Mach properly.

Also, the G code file still need to be ASCII, so no multi-byte characters can exist in them.  But filename and paths should work now.  However, do not install Mach in a path that contains multi-byte characters.  That may not work.

Notice the filename in the screen shot below.  My wife is Korean and she taught me that.  :)

Steve

Thanks for your kind explanation. ;)

In fact, what I want is I can use multi-byte characters in "Folder name" and "File name".

Does the build 3713 allow me to use multi-byte file and folder names? ;)

Would anyone let me know whether Mach4 team has will to fix this?

Mach4 doesn't support it? or I should change any configuration in Mach4?

I send this issue.

But found more: lua script load/save on UTF8, but runs on 8bit coding.

Is this a bug to be fixed? or They will keep this maintained?
I don't understand why Mach4 does not support correct unicode...
Mach3 does not have this problem, doesn't it? ;(

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Possible Feed Rate Bug?
« on: March 02, 2018, 05:36:51 AM »
I think Mach4 has some issue presenting correct feedrate...

Be careful with blanket statements like that.  Mach only "presents" what it is fed back to it from the motion controller.  What are you changing?  You are changing ESS parameters in the ESS plugin, not changing anything in Mach.  Maybe ESS has some issue with feed rate reporting at frequencies higher than 160.  But it isn't Mach.  It could depend on the type of G code file you are running as well.  If you are running a 3D file with CV and the ESS is reporting back to Mach faster that it was at the lower frequencies, then you will see more feed rate deviation.  So is it a > 160 ESS problem or just a symptom of faster reporting?  I don't know.  But again, it isn't Mach.

Another issue is motor capability.  Mach will cap the velocity of a move to the slowest motor in the move's capability.  So if X is able to move at 300 inches a minute and Y is only able to move at 200 inches per minute, then Y will limit X to 200 inches a minute in an XY move, even if you set F300.

Remember, just because you specify F60 in the G code, that doesn't mean the machine is going to actually do that.  CV and motor velocity capping can and will change it if the conditions warrant.

if the feed rate fluctuations are a symptom of the type of G code being run and you wish to see a more consistent feed rate, you may want to implement some sort of averaging scheme.  One could do that in the PLC script.  But if CV is causing the feed rate fluctuations, you would consistently see a lower feed rate average than what you specified with F in the G code.  Think of F as a maximum feed rate allowed when using CV.

Steve

I'm sorry. I didn't intend to offend anyone...

I didn't know what relates to feedrate fluctuation. What I saw was fluctuating feedrate but with smooth motion.

I used Daz's Unplugin Plugin to remove the keyboard plugin and it seems better, but I can't really be certain!!

I contacted Lee Neuman of VistaCNC and told him to come here and Warp9 where this has been mentioned, but nothing. I emailed him a week or so ago and he said he's still "working on it."

Someone said they're ordering a P4-S in hopes that will work, but I'm just guessing if the P2-S plugin doesn't work, the P4-S won't either.

Tom

So, now Lee knows that his MPG malfunctions with Mach4?
And he's working on it?

If you adjust plugin frequency higher than 160, you will see the feedrate fluctuate enormously.
( I don't know how it relates in other motion controllers, but my ESS has an option for plugin frequency.)

I think Mach4 has some issue presenting correct feedrate...

I use Dell i5-2400S PC with Legit Windows 10 Pro.

I only installed Windows 10, Mach 4 and Notepad++.

Plugged the AC cord to Earthed AC outlet.

I even reinforced Vcc and GND of the VistaCNC MPG handweel.
Its cable has 6 wires but uses only 4. So I soldered non-used 2 wires to VCC and GND each, so that it can have more electric conductivity.

I don't understand why this happens....

I thought my problem solved... but not...

I do want to know if there's anybody who doesn't suffer this trouble with P1-S, P2-S or P4-S etc... which has "Screen" on it.

This is very annoying...

I don't turn off the machine and the computer, but I have to... only because REVIVE VistaCNC hand wheel.....

Please make decent Unicode available.

When I try to open a file including Korean alphabet in the path or in the file name itself, Mach4 just says... It can't open...

Even DeskCNC which was developed almost 15 years ago had no problem like this....

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: What changes PCID?
« on: February 13, 2018, 09:11:12 AM »
If you install a different version of Windows such as upgrading from Home to Pro,
then you should expect the PCID to change.

When you issue a new license because you changed your computer, you can also
deactivate your old license so that it does not count against your maximum number
of active licenses.

I know deactivated licence doesn't affect the maximum number of active licence(5), but it consumes 1 out of 12....

If I install the same windows 10 pro again, the PCID does not change? Right? ;)
