jbraddock,

Have you sent in a ticket to our helpdesk regarding this issue? No one on our support team would recommend abandoning one compatible motion controller for another, though we do often recommend upgrading to Mach4. I appreciate your frustration and I am glad that joeaverage was able to solve your problem, but I was unable to find any ticket in our support system from you regarding this issue. Our team is always happy to help, but we can only render aid when we know it's needed. I hope venting helped but next time you get stuck, please reach out for help.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach4 Homing Slave

Hello,

Do you have the pin for your Y Home switch assigned to that function in the ESS plugin configuration menu? Mach4 has to know that it's a home switch.

Mach4 will not run on the parallel port.
There is a parallel port plugin, but it's limited in functionality, and costs an extra $20.

So yes, you'd need a motion controller.

Truthfully, you would need an external motion controller even to continue using Mach3 as you cannot use the parallel port with a 64-bit system. Windows seems to be trying its hardest to kill the parallel port with its recent updates, so upgrading to a stable and well-supported external motion controller is not a bad idea. Having learned Mach3 and Mach4 at the same time, I did find Mach4 to be easier to learn and I always recommend it to beginners. If you're unsure if you'd like to use Mach3 or Mach4, both are free to download and try out at machsupport.com. You won't be able to move your machine until you get an external motion controller, but it will help you get a feel for the two programs before diving in. You can also check out our YouTube channel if you want to see some of the newer features of Mach4 or check out a few of our tutorials. I'm also happy to answer any questions here, via PM, or via our helpdesk at support.machsupport.com.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: machine.ini file corrupted on mach4

Make your self a spreadsheet in excel

One page for each tab

Then fill it in with your setting ,keep it safe ,then you can rebuild in the event of failure

If it’s a spreadsheet you can keep it updated

Paper copy wins every time for backup

This is an excellent idea. There is a spreadsheet posted in the Mach3 side of this forum for those transitioning from Mach3 to Mach4 but it can also be handy just to collect and save your settings.

It appears that CNC Router Parts may have actually developed the patch, according to their CNC Zone post. They use the ESS, which recommends .062, which is why they patched that version.

You are correct. CNC Router Parts contacted us with an offer to share the patch they had created and make it available to everyone. Mach3 is no longer in development and our team is focused solely on Mach4--which has been the case for several years.

I appreciate the recommendations, but the patch was developed on version 3.043.062 and there are not plans to create a patch for additional builds. Since the inclusion of the patch was the only change made, the version number has not been changed.

The recommendation has always been to use a dedicated, offline computer for Mach3, which protects the legacy software from update-related disruptions. If your Windows 10 computer has not updated to 1803, you can take it offline and continue using whichever build you'd prefer indefinitely.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: spindle setup help
« on: May 18, 2018, 11:25:12 AM »
In the UC100 configuration menu, what do you have in the Spindle settings tab? You should have a pin assigned under Spindle PWM Pin. That same pin should be assigned to Spindle On under Configure>Control>Output Signals. If you'd prefer to communicate with me directly, you can submit a ticket at support.machsupport.com. The UC100 can be tricky to set up with spindle control, but I'm happy to help.

Mach4 Videos / Zero Brane Editor
« on: May 17, 2018, 08:53:13 AM »
Some of you have already discovered the Zero Brane Editor in development versions of Mach4 but I made an introduction video for those of you who don't know what it is. The Zero Brane Editor will be included in the next locked down version of Mach4 (coming very soon) along with some other great features.

As requested, http://www.machsupport.com/software/downloads-updates/ . For anyone who prefers 3.043.066, it is still available on the FTP server but the patch was done with version 3.043.062.

All the best,
Bryanna
