Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach4 Parallel Port Legacy Plugin
« on: March 29, 2019, 05:17:49 AM »
Craig,
I think it is possible to guestimate from NEW USERS introducing themselves.
How many of them say they have got Mach4 vs those who say they have Mach3?

Also Mach3 users may have more than 1 machine.

Number of Products listed made for MACH3 on ebay far exceed those listed as compatible with Mach4.

(Survey by Bob Warfield)
Market share 2017 (CNC Control Low End Market)
MACH3 - 47.5%
LinuxCNC – 18.9%
MACH4 – 4.57%
GRBL/Carbide Motion – 3.%
UCCNC – 3.0%
Flashcut – 1.52%

Trend from 2016
MACH3  gained in market share from 2016
MACH4 dropped slightly in Market share from 2016.
All others lost market share.

He can only publish 2018 results in 2019.

In 2019 Windows 10 overtakes Windows 7's market share for the first time.

BUT Mach4 is unlikely to overtake Mach3 market share in 10 years since in 2019 Mach4 still has probably only 10-15% the number of users of MACH3.

NFS needs to do something to win over more MACH3 users. Discounted upgrade path perhaps.

Is MACH4 going to be simply as successful as only Windows Vista or windows 8.X while people wait for Mach5?

Pausing the video stops the download too.
As I said earlier, pausing does not stop anything as far as the progress bar or the Task Mgr. is concerned here.
Russ
 :)

YOU are right.
If using MACH theme,
Video even when paused is still being downloaded in background. HTM5 autoplay diabled only reduce the CPU utilization but not the video download.

When Theme changed back to (SMF default - curve)
CPU utilization is low & Network (downloading of Video) are stopped.

Least likely it is MACH3 issue though it is better to use patched version of ver. Mach3 V3.043.062

If you have stopped using for months, consider RUST and Corrosion of Wires and motors armature or z axis moving parts need cleanup and lubrication FIRST.
Also open up the lid of PC and blow out dust from the CPU heatsink.

Best is to use Opera Browser.
All ads. in sites like Youtube etc will automatically be filtered off if ad blocker is on in Opera.
Then download add-on for opera called disable HTML autoplay.
This add-on (also available for Chrome) will stop video autoplay. But you can choose to play by clicking on the video and enjoy the video without Ads.

General Mach Discussion / Re: x axis direction question mach3

If it is me,
I would swap x and the y axis and keep x0 y0 at nearest left corner so that it is easier for others to understand when jogging with a pendant or arrow keys.

All  CAD/CAM drawings Cartesian coordinates convention, x0 has to be at the  left corner of table. That should also be the machine coordinates. YOU should not change that.
If you reference home as you are doing, you could set X to length of table (say +240 inch) and NOT zero. So when you g0 x0, spindle head moves away to far end.
If you set that to zero, then your gcodes must have all negative values of x.

I would just move my x axis proximity switch or do what Gerry said.
Then redefine tool change location to x=240, y=0

with this machine the operators station is in the front of the table  the table is 6 feet wide and 20 feet long ( the x axis )  well the x axis is parrelel to the wall and back of the operators station is against the same wall so when he is standing at the station facing the monitor the table is to his left if he looks over his left shoulder he is looking down the 20 foot length on this machine when he moves the x axis it is moving away from him  in the positive movement I would like the screen to accurtly depict what the movement is on the screen the table is moving   right to left   so the cross hairs should move right to left  is why I am wanting to do this
In your situation,
x=0 should be far left corner  so you should simple invert the x-axis so that x++ is coming nearer.

Search what type of browser you use to turn autoplay of video off -
It will be hidden deep in the browser configs and switch it to manual -
When you find it and switch it remember that if you get a browser update it will switch it back
-

Using FireFox, looked all through the settings and didn't see where to select that.
Will look again a little deeper, might have to ask online.
Thank you,
Russ

How do I turn off video autoplay in Firefox?
Open up a new browser tab, go to about:config , and adjust these settings:
Set media.autoplay.default to 1 to disable video autoplay for all sites.
Set media.autoplay.allow-muted to false to disable video autoplay even for muted videos.
