I can hear the motors kinda respond with jog, but no major movement at all.

Please make sure that the microstep per rev at the DM860A are set to 1600 and nothing higher.
see attached

General Mach Discussion / Re: Motors stalling /growling

as i said i am new at this so i may ask questions that i guess i should know but, what about 1 through 4. i don't see it.
i did have the steps per rev. higher. I do thank you for your help.

Please see attached to set SW1 SW2 SW3.
I am guessing that your motors are rated 3.5A max current.
Are your motors running better now?

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Dust hood
« on: May 03, 2019, 07:33:11 AM »
Hello all,

on my router I have a pneumatic dust hood. I have two M codes to activate and deactivate it in G code. Also in screen I've made a button so I can raise and lower it in the middle of the program if I want to. But there is a problem. When I start the program (any program that I have) dust hood is activated but then suddenly the output is deactivated in the middle of the program. Sometimes this happens after a minute, sometimes after 10 minutes. Then I have to push the button to activate it again. Any help would be appreciated.

Perhaps try using a 24Volts (higher voltage less affected by noise) Bistable (self-locking) relay (only a short pulse required to switch states).
(see attached)
Will reduce draining of power from the C32 board when dust hood activated.

Wonder if anybody might know what steps I'am missing? I recently picked up Q-cad/cam. I draw up simple test drawing's, enter the correct settings. Watch the cam profile run. Then I try to load it into Mach 3. nothing ever loads. Getting the Bad character used, Block = 0 error. I have tried everything. Tried the diff. post processors. no luck. I can take these same drawing's and drop them right into D2nc and Lazycam and they load very consistently into Mach 3. I really need that Q-cam program to load. Any tips or ideas would be so helpful. Been trying to figure this out for weeks now...I think at one point I did get it to load. But super stuck again. Doing this all on my main online computer, Win 7 64 bit. My Cnc machine is standalone. Xp 32 bit. As soon as I get past this I will send it to my machine. I have ran many small projects now on my cnc. So I have had success. But this cam stuff is really tricky. Peace out.

YOU need to do a "CAM Legacy Export" and choose "GCODE" as the export format.
MACH3 only reads GCODE.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Re: Feed Rate mm/sec to mm/min
« on: May 03, 2019, 02:47:31 AM »
Hello

I have a feed rate issue from running a Multicam Post Processed file on Mach3 for CNCRP.

I think I have fixed most of the other problems but cannot find a way of changing the feed rate units from mm/sec to mm/min without manually changing the g-code itself.

Is there a setting in Mach3 I can change for this?

Many thanks

Edward

I think it could be done using a MACH3 BRAIN.
I will try to create one BRAIN ASAP. Just trying to make certain which DRO label means what.
Sorry, i tried but it cannot be done.

Running XP stand alone version R3.043.066 everything has gone haywire and status window says cannot reverse run from present feedhold

Can any member give me a clue
Open up the computer case and blow out all the accumulated dust esp from the CPU heatsink and PSU (power supply)
If it is still not stable then:-
Backup your profiles and license etc and downgrade the MACH3 to the patched version R3.043.062
It is the version that is currently on NFS website and labeled only as Mach3Version3.043.exe

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach3 X/Y/Z Step Pin & Dir Pin #
« on: May 03, 2019, 02:19:54 AM »
I have a older CNC Router (Windows 98) that I would like to upgrade to Mach3,  I downloaded the Demo version and when I went to configure it, it is asking me for Step Pin #, and Dir Pin # (along with Step Port, and Dir Port),  I don't have any information that shows what numbers I should enter here,  is there a way to determine what my current setup is?  I'm not sure how to proceed with this.

Thank You

If it win98 router is based on Ability system's INDEXER LPT you will need TWO parallel ports since Indexer LPT only supports 2 axis on one parallel port.
Attached is a connection diagram to give you a clue on how to connect a Router built with Indexer LPT/Win98 to MACH3.
(my first router had INDEXER LPT/ Win98 so I am just guessing it is likely your machine could be the same.)
I know of no other systems using the parallel port + win98.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mill-Turn
« on: May 03, 2019, 02:03:26 AM »
I'm starting to look into turning machines and all I know at the moment is that there exist simple turning machines with a movable tool post, anything more complex than that is a bit over the top of my head at the moment. I haven't quite figured out what Mill-Turn is, but does Mach 3/Mach 4 support mill-turn?
Mach 3/Mach 4 support supports lathe with more than 2 axes. But must use LATHE profiles and NOT mill profiles if you want to do turning.
