General Mach Discussion / Re: Shift Key
« on: March 22, 2006, 03:13:34 PM »
Bloy,

I think I picked up the same keyboard - no shift key. I downloaded the "fast jog" 1024 file and checked it out. It worked great as long as I was on continuous jog to begin with and wanted to speed things up for a bit. I usually keep my jogging in step mode and hit the shift key to go rapidly to the general area, then I use step to hone in. I modified the VB script to save the prior speed percentage as well as the step/continuous state, so that the "r" key returns to the prior stepping mode as well.  BTW, I used the "insert" key for the ""r" function since this is on the keyboard.

General Mach Discussion / Re: CNC4PC Boards

For some reason I thought you already purchases the 4cnc stuff. If cost is not the major concern, I would definitely go with Campbell - I don't know much about Grex, but Campbell has a great reputation. I also think he has a more thorough isolation scheme. There is a lot more on the Campbell board, which makes mounting logistics and box design easier. Campbell has all the power supplies and the charge pump on board.  I also doubt I would have needed the pull up modification if I went with Campbell. If I had it to do over, I would probably go with something more like the Campbell. I wish it had room for another parallel port, however.

The 4cnc stuff worked for me, and I just wanted to give the other side of the coin before you dismissed them out of hand.

I use their breakout board, safety charge pump, and dc relay boards with a Xylotex controller and the cnc4pc stuff works just fine. The PCBs look homemade, but the layouts are simple, and the through hole connections are perfectly solid. I don't think you will have quality issues. The company was very responsive to any questions I asked and was always willing to help out. The only thing I had to mess around with was adding 10k pull-up resistors on the step output pins or my steppers would spasm when the charge pump shut the breakout board down.

Art just sent me a note - I downloaded 1.90, and low and behold, "Config/edit button script" is present and accounted for. Now I don't feel so stupid. Well, a little stupid for not asking you guys earlier - before I drove myself nuts with this. Everything is working fine now. I really apprreciate the help.

Thanks for the help but.....Config/Edit Button Script???? I looked for this in Mach3, and can't find it anywhere.  I'm on 1.84.001 - just downloaded  a couple of days ago. Is it under the config menu  along with "ports and pins","homing limits" ...blah blah balh..."fonts" submenus?

I've got Mach3 up and running and all is well with the mill. My question is about Screen4, and it is really basic (no pun intended). I want to write a short VB script for a new button. I checked the box for "VB Script" in the new button properties and it says "vb script edited in Mach3" - okay good so far. Now I go into Mach3, load the new .SET and see my nice new button, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to enter the VB script for it. Is there a naming convention for a script file associated with a button?  How do I get a script entered and associated with this  button? I know I must be missing something incredibly obvious here - but I keep going over the same ground. I kknow I am going to feel really sheepish when I get the answer :)
