made a skim cut miked the part tried to put the number in the X dro it won't let me do that Z dro works this is in mach 4 lathe build 3206 need help please !!!!!

My name is LARRY James I'm NEW TO THIS FORUM I would like to enter my questions in the correct forum I'm trying to setup a 7x14 mini lathe with stepper motors my motors have a 1/16 micro step I have been told multiply 16x200 which equals 3200 MY LEAD SCREW HAS 8 THREADS PER INCH which would equal 25,6000 i would like to verify these numbers to see if they are correct could I get someones help with this the docs in Mach4 say that 200 is for mm and not for standard

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 software computer requirement to run Mach3

I'm a new member to this forum and have been told that the computer used to run Mach3 has to be a desk top computer with a parallel port running 32 bit windows 7.  I have a friend that is a computer geek that sold me a business laptop computer that has a docking station that has a parallel port that he thinks will work, I hope that the laptops that they say will not work is a regular laptop some of the older laptops have a parallel port if it won't work I have a extra desktop that I will be able to use I just hope that the business laptop with a docking station with a parallel port will work.  What is the reason that they say a laptop will not work, has anybody ever tried a business laptop with a docking station that has a parallel port?

Hi I'm new to this site and just starting out trying to set up a mini lathe cnc set up and looking to see if I can use Mach3 it seems like it is quite complicated and not sure that I can learn all that is required.  Right now I'm trying to figure out what operating system that I need to be running, from what I can tell I need to be running a 32 bit version of windows 7 is this true?
