Steve,

Thanks...  Yes, I agree with you, it should be the ESS, we all hope that someday it will be able to process this in real time.

When do you think it will be available?

Steve,

We need to read the motor encoder to compare it with commanded position when motor speed =0.  To alert the user if an axis has lost its position.

I guess it can be done in a lua script, but thought a PMC would have been easier for users.

Let me know if you have any thoughts on doing this.

Mach4 General Discussion / Reading Registers on PMC
« on: August 30, 2016, 03:48:35 PM »
I am trying to read a register on PMC, but cannot access the ESS encoder register.  I can see in the diagnostics the encoder register just fine, but it is not accessible on PMC.

I would appreciate if somebody can help.

Thanks,

Mark,

Please try with the installer:

http://cnc4pc.com/Tech_Docs/M4-ESS-MPG-5X_V1.0.zip

Do not hesitate in contacting me if something is not clear.

It will configure the plugin and Mach4.  You will have to add the lua scrip to the screen manually.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach4 Spindle setup
« on: March 18, 2016, 07:32:34 AM »
Rodney,
Thanks for pointing me to this thread.  Here is a curve showing the linearity we get out of the C32:

As you can see the curve is a little higher than it is supposed to on the lower end (usually when accuracy counts more).  I think this circuit may be improved. I will take a second look at it.
In your case, you think you may be just fine by moving the curve just a little bit down.  You can do that by lowering the max speed or y playing with the on-board potentiometer.
Other solutions could be:
-   Closed Loop Spindle:  This used to work in Mach3, but the latest I know it is not working on the current versions of Mach3.  It is not currently supported on the PoKeys or ESS, but I am sure it will get implemented soon.  You can also implement it on the pokeys using brain, macro or LUA script by writing a script that would do the PID to correct the PWM to reach the commanded spindle speed.
-   Another solution would be to implement spindle speed control via Modbus.

General Mach Discussion / Re: CNC4PC Servo Package - Set up issues
« on: July 02, 2015, 02:22:51 PM »
Ken,

I received your email.  I was not able to locate your order in the database so I am not sure what hardware you have.

Please comment on my suggestion about the HARD ENABLE jumper.  It may be that the servo is not tuned ok and it is faulting.  By moving the jumper to the HARD ENABLE, it will force it to be enabled and allow you to tune it.  Once tuned, put it back on the SOFT ENABLE position, so that the circuit on the C32 can detect the servo fault signal.

Please tell me more and I may be able to help you.

Did the motors calibrate OK?  Are they running smoothly?  What happens if you set the jumper on the C34DG to HARD ENABLE?

General Mach Discussion / Re: I need HELP… Please

Dave,

Yes, I understand that swapping does not fix the problem.  We are not swapping to fix the problem, but figure out where is the fault coming from.

I understand from what you are saying that the fault is following the driver.  That if you put a different driver on that axis it does not fault.  Please confirm this is the case.  If it is the case, please save the configuration driver that you know is working ok and copy it into the driver that is faulting.

Let me know how it goes.

Dave,

What do you mean it did not help?  What we need is to identify where is the problem coming from.  What exactly did you swap? What happened?

I understand you have one axis that is faulting.  We need to understand what is causing the fault.  You need to swap connections until you identify what is following the fault.  Please swap:
- Cables from the breakout board to the driver.
- Driver to motor (power and encoders).
- Motor on axis, as it could be a mechanical thing with the axis.

I can take a look at your files, but I am not sure there would be anything evident there.
