i dont think its pc issue ,because pc or buffer problems not loose position ,maybe just give you deley
its sound more like the worst word in control system"noise"
in any case ,which hardware do you use?
check all yours ground
avoid ground loop
ground all "0" from all supplier to the main ground
try use Ethernet  not usb cat7 cable

actualy this question is more for yours VFD supplier
but i think every vfd supplier have the OK output ,its mean no any error
by the way SCM (italy brand) have also one more safty device in there M6 that cheack if the 3 coil on the spindle are conect

the y axiss if its gantry and you use 2 (master and slave)
i give you my advise,use it as one motor and connect both to one just in driver one is opsite
its avoid many other problems with the master slave

don't have Ethernet option?
i use pokeys ,cant said never had noise issue but only on extension cards(pokies have porelay cards connect via net work)
but i use only Ethernet

we have very strange problem
when we press stop(after we press hold and wait awhile then press stop)
the residual current drive "jump" attach the rcd photo
is any ide what happened when we press stop that can cause this?

pokeys have 24 input and 2 relay on main card,but you can add extension  10 output relay cards ,each have 8 reley
so total can have 80 output relay
and can add extra input card so its real good advantage for who need it

we use c# application that control mach by Api
so we can load files ,change ,stop....do every thing we need
also control more then one mach system paralel

the chines hardware have there own life,(not always listen yours order)
so if you want more stable life must replace break out board and mach to normal
Sherman: i suggest you one more advice ,use servo not stepper ,the price difference not so big but then you got total other product
