SmoothStepper USB / Max Servo speed

Is it possible for SS to drive a servo motor at a speed greater than the nameplate RPM, without raising the voltage?

Works in progress / Re: THE LATHE PROJECT - 2011
« on: February 28, 2011, 10:42:50 AM »
Hi Scott,
Looks dead to me.
Everyone's wants are diversified, as evidenced above. Even the set I'm using that I designed for myself doesn't do all I want; design time too demanding.
Parts of my set, (probing in turn), will be published in Digital Machinist, spring issue. By summer I'll put it up here, but there will be many objections; too cluttered,  buttons too small, color doesn't follow a theme, etc., etc., etc.
Maybe the Mach Turn community is just too small to get to a consensus set.

Hi All,
Just got here.
I made a request on the Mach Yahoo group that there should be a page for wizards rather than the standard access route which is too slow. Someone pointed out that Phil made a screen set which has such a page. I downloaded it and found it still too slow. But, I also discovered why, and a simple fix. The wizards were written as SCREEN SETS! It appears that Phil has pulled them apart and put them on a page, and in fact choosing a particular one, is choosing another page; GREAT. But the slow part is that the exit button loads a standard screen set; written that way because previously, (BP; before Phil) you were in a "wizard set".
If that exit button is simply changed to go to the "run" page number via OEM code, Phil"s set achieves the speed I was hoping for.

Now if I dare, I have couple Wizard wishes.
I think that on all Turn wizards, there should be:
A TOOL NUMBER dro
An APPEND button, so that the currently generated code appends the file rather than replacing it; like the New Fangled mill set.
A SPRING PASSES dro

I'd also like a speeds & feeds, surface speed, wizard.

Got it! Thanks

On your reply #42 you mention 350,000 steps per second. Mach 3 can't do that, I think.

In your last video of turning, I see a 60 degree carbide insert. The camera is looking at what is normally the top of the insert, (in a normal lathe setup). But if the spindle is turning counter clockwise, you must be cutting with the bottom edge of the insert. If it's not turning that direction, then you're cutting a left hand thread???

Hi  Simpson,
Nice work, creative thinking.
How are you getting 350,000 pulses per second from Mach 3?
Are you turning with the bottom edge of the carbide insert?

JetCam screen designer / Re: Discovered part of the problem with Jetcam

Hi Stan,
Very interesting.
First, I have it and if you want it I can send it one way or another, snail mail or email if your setup will take that size.
Then you can decide if you want to post it.
I've designed a lathe set with it and have offered that for sale for a few bucks, $14 including postage. The .lset has appeared in a recent article in "Digital Machinist. I've posted it for sale on CNCZONE and am thinking about putting it on 'Bay.
Since buyers can't edit it without Screenedit 1.1, I'm asking you if I can include your program on the disk?
No big deal either way, so far I've only sold a few.

Thanks again,
I love that little program,
Ozzie

Hello Stan,
First let me say that the editor labeled 1.01 was, and is, fantastic; thank you so much for it.
Yes there are a couple things that don't work, but there is so much that works better than any of the other editors.
The really cool thing is being able to do it all, buttons of super design, VB script, etc, from a single program.
I have my copy but I don't see that version around anywhere, for others.
The link from above, http://files.jetcam.net/stan/mach/, doesn't yield anything but a blank screen.

Thanks again,
Ozzie

Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / Re: Power Feed, new purchase
« on: October 05, 2008, 01:40:35 PM »
I've just come in from using Power Feed a bit. Pretty slick stuff.
An additional thought I have is that it really should be a page in Mach 3 rather than a wizard.
It really solves a couple of issues when what you want to do is more intuitive than requiring CAM and writing code by hand or using MDI is just way too tiresome.
This is a missing link!
I understand the desire to profit from it by selling it as part of the Newfangled thing. But perhaps you can give those who buy it a method/program for making it a page in Mach 3.

Such a page can be written from scratch, but with my limited knowledge of VB, it would take me quite a while. It would be much cooler for you guys to figure a way.

Just my thoughts,
Ozzie

Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / Power Feed, new purchase
« on: October 05, 2008, 09:53:19 AM »
Hello,
Though I've held a Mach license since early in Mach I, I have resisted buying the Newfangled set.
The Power Feed wizard caused me to pay up.
I have a question and some suggestions. If these are a rehash I apologize, I cannot possibly read all the previous posts.

There is no indication what feedrate the incremental stepover is using; what is it? Is it a jog or the set feedrate?
I suggest there be a button to save all settings.
I suggest a DRO for step jog size. It is probable that I'll want to use keyboard jogging while in the wizard.
I suggest a DRO for continuous jog rate
I suggest a row of buttons to the right of the incremental steps Dro's, to allow going in the opposite direction.
And maybe a button to "go to rapid Z". I'll know better after I use it more.

I'd like to add a button to the main screens that would instantly take me to the Power Feed wizard. Please supply the code for such a button.

I tried to make these change myself, but I can't get into it; I think.
Let me know your thoughts

Thanks,
Ozzie
