I don't see a Feed Hold function that I can assign to a key.  I don't know if that means I need to write one or if it is somewhere that I don't see it.  I see only functions for jogging.

That worked for me in Mach 3.  Not in Mach 4.

Before I delve into this, I wanted to see if there's a simple way to assign Feed Hold to a keyboard key.  Thanks.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: ESS and PWM Speed Control

Thanks.  I have multiple pulleys.  I see the screen with the spindle ranges and can enter multiple ranges.  I don't understand how the ESS knows which range to use to set its PWM value in order to do its open loop control of the spindle speed.  In Mach 3 it was possible to pick a pulley combination (now spindle range).  I can change Range 0 every time I change the pulleys, but that's not the ultimate in usability.  Are other people writing Lua scripts in order to do this?  I'll check the ESS forums.

That's what I would guess too, but I don't see a place to input pulley ratios or ranges.

Mach4 General Discussion / ESS and PWM Speed Control

I am using Mach 4 with an ESS.  In Mach 3, with open loop control, I could say what pulleys were in use and the spindle speed would be about right open loop.  In Mach 4, if I do S6000, I see around 4000 RPM.  Does the ESS do open or closed loop spindle speed control?  If open loop, do I need to say what pulleys are in use and where would I do that - it looks like this is what spindle ranges are for, but how do I use those?  If closed loop, how come it's so far off?

I like using the keyboard arrow keys for jogging.  But when I want to edit something in the MDI window, the arrow keys continue to jog instead of moving me around the text.  I thought that in Mach 3, when MDI editing, the arrow keys stopped jogging.

Aside from choosing other keys for jogging, is there a way to prevent the arrow keys from jogging while editing in the MDI window?

I think this is working now.  I hadn't selected the ESS as the motion device or exited Mach after changing each initial address, etc.  Would be nicer if the notification that a motion controller hasn't been selected were provided by a dialog rather than a crash.

32 bit Win 7 Pro, Mach 4.2.0.2803, ESS plug-in 1.0.1.132, ESS at address 10.9.9.9 directly connected to adapter card.

When I Config the ESS plug-in from Mach 4, the dialog opens and if I do nothing except Cancel the dialog, Mach crashes.  I see a dialog with the message "Mach 4 CNC GUI has stopped working".

Thanks for any advice.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: No spindle rpm dro readout

I am using Mach 4 and the SmartBOB-USB.  I see the spindle input toggling in both the Mach 4 diagnostic and the SmartBOB real time port display when I run the spindle but there is no RPM display in Mach.  I suspect I'm missing some set up step.  In Mach 4, I have the index pin configured as an input from SmartBOB.  Thanks for any advice.
