What do you mean by have it look at the spindle speed?

Oh... :(
Second attempt: is there a command to tell mach3 to wait motionless for a given amount of seconds?

General Mach Discussion / Setting Spindle Speed
« on: September 24, 2015, 03:24:56 AM »
Hello guys,
I have a problem with spindle speed: I often have programs involving M3 and M4 (both clock and anti-clock turning) but I can't set Mach3 to WAIT until the given speed is reached and, even more important, to wait for the motor to slow down to zero before inverting the sense of turning.
I correctly use the S command and indeed the spindle goes to that speed in the end but it can take a from 3 to 8 seconds depending on the rpm you choose: the faster, the longer it takes.
I know there is a setting in the config page to set how many seconds to wait after the S command before starting machining but this is not enough when you have to wait for the spindle to slow down before changing the sense of rotation.
Since the lathe has an rpm sensor that works perfectly it would make much more sense if it were read by Mach3 to know when to start machining or to wait until TE counter reaches zero before issuing the change sense of rotation.
Can it be done on mach3? What is the command?
Thanks!

General Mach Discussion / Input not recognized with USB controller
« on: August 31, 2015, 07:53:58 AM »
Solved: the controller I have is both usb and parallel port. It doesn't support probe input on USB, it does on parallel port.

The lathe consistently cuts with one thousand of a mm precision, servo motors and zero backlash bell screw. It's insanely precise, beyond what I expected!
I can't say for the probe, I still have to buy it.
I spent the morning with that wizard for lathe and, in fact, is very easy to use and seems to compensate correctly for the tip radius!
Can't wait to have a real probe to test precision and repeatability.

You mean the probing routine can't obtain such a precision or the progress aren't that precise?

Hello!
Unfortunately my products need to be insanely precise and I can't exceed one or two hundredths of a mm.
Another option is to use a VERY thin internal grooving insert. Due to the shape I need to scan I just need one corner of the insert to touch the surface and, maybe, it just takes the insert to be gold plated and wired so that when it touches the silver/good surface I scan the contact will be closed.
Does it make sense?

General Mach Discussion / Input not recognized with USB controller
« on: August 27, 2015, 07:52:09 AM »
Hello!
I have a CNC lathe connected with the parallel port and a Mill connected with a USB controller (I don't know which one...).
Both work ok when cutting but with the Lathe I can feed inputs both physically (with Wires) and virtually (key strokes).
In this way I'm testing the probe functionality.
On the mill I can virtually map the digitize input and it's recognized correctly in the diagnose page (it blinks when I hit the keyboard letter mapped to it).
When I do a G31 scan the key stroke doesn't stop the mill and it keeps going forever.
Fearing it was a problem with mapping I mapped another key to the E-Stop and it works ok.
I then mapped it to the spindle index and while it blinks when pressed it doesn't update the RPM as it does with the Lathe with the parallel port.
How come?

Hello, today me and Richard spoke a while on Skype about probing manually or automatically. He also pointed me to the lathe probing wizard you uploaded to the forum (thank you BR549!!!).
It took me a while to understand why I couldn't write the data to a file but finally I made it!
Since I don't have a probe yet I switched the spindle index interrupt to the probe one and make a few tests faking contacts by manually moving the spindle. It worked and now I can easily get data if I buy or make a probe.
The kind of shape I need tip scan brings me to the next problem: is there a way for Mach3 or any other software to CORRECT my cloud of points taking into account the tip reasons of the probe?
The other option would be to use a tip so small to almost eliminate the problem mechanically but it would be sharp and I can't scratch Mouthpieces that cost up to 400$...

Solved it: since I was using the lathe probing wizard I was missing the M40 and M41 Visual Basic calls for choosing an output file.
I just copied them from the Mill folder and now it works!
