Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Auto Touch Module
« on: October 19, 2016, 04:12:47 AM »
Check your setting

Look at the active low/high and change that
Is it wired correctly ?
Are the pull up resistors correct

With no probe contact the small square led should be black and the one in the touch should be black as wel the led in m4 diag should not be on

When the probe is active the above is reversed blue blue on

The Above needs sorting and proved before you even try under power

I had a a working system but the software had a glitch (now fixed ) I was using a 3D probe and it drove the tip through a piece of 12mm MDF
So I have had to sort a system out like you but with a ESS and m4 ,I cannot use a touch plate as the resistance though the machine is to high to get a good contact so I use a switch type tool setter ( wire I got is different )
Just waitin for Warp9 to get the G31.x sorted

Just go though the setting/wiring one step at a time and prove each change do not make more than one alteration at a time else you wil not know which one was at fault

Question

Is it active when you open touch
Does it go blue when you press the tool setter or use a wire to mimic the tool

It should be black when you open the touch do da

Is the first small blue led on the front page on or off before you run the touch

Last on did it work before you installed 3206 if it did have you altered anything

Dave
As my play pen is remote from the house there was a chance that the Earth at the end would float up in respect to the actual earth it's self so I bunged in a rod now I am confident that I have a true Earth in the play pen as well as the Earth rod fo the house.

Dave not done much house bashing I was more to heavy power and high voltage , as I was a SAP and did live line working and underground live jointing it's a different world , we were the supply authority for a village owned by the firm I served my time at I have seen most of the meter work but best not tell how here  :)

Earth testing is a major field in its self not a simple matter well that's what my paper was about the other was lightning

I have polluted this thread to much so I will now go quiet

Gents

Don't get your PE and system earth mixed up keep them separate

With 50 years at the Sparks game you do learn a bit , last job 27 years looking after a large Uk banks main computer centre (facilities engineering) you can imagine the havoc with data and high power stuff not to mention some 400hz stuff in the mix the main PE was dirty odd order harmonics all over the place

Keep them apart , no loops , only star point earths

I wish you luck to calm it down , shielded cable from the bob to drivers are recommended but only connect the shield to system earth at on end only .

In my book PE is only for the mains power side be it 240vac ( uk ) or 110vac for the guys across the big pond

Stuart

PS if your machine is in a garage/workshop consider putting in a good copper earth rod at least 6 foot long for the main PE that will calm it down that's what I have done even that we have a PME system

General Mach Discussion / Re: Bridgeport Knee Mill Conversion?

Ok. Dave

If the supplier says no filter that's a done deal , but is that a dealer or Bosh themselves

All my experience ( yes I still do a bit and keep up with things) filters are necessary particularly if there are more electronics on the same feed , if you fit one put it next to the VFD

But then I am old school better to be safe than sorry , we all no that CNC machines do some funny things at times

Now back to the play pen ( workshop) to make some small bits on my small CNC mill that I have refitted from the Far East nearly motion controller under mach3 to ESS an mach4 no wiring dia and all wire the same colour with nine limits to sort out is was fun

Take care and be safe

Dave

A quick and dirty calc you would need at least a 25a mcb high inrush one

Run 4 mm T&E

Make sure you fit a mains filter to the VFD they are dirty what nots your servo drives will thank you

As I have been out of the sparks trade for 20 years I may have over sized things

It's that cheeky so and so again  :)

If the OP and DTG would be kind enough to post the code when it is proven I and I suspect others would be extremely grateful for you endeavours
