Let me make a point it’s not an expensive pc it is a refurbed one cost with screen keyboard and ne non dell w10 64 bit pro from a ms authorised dealer cost inc taxes shipping £300 pretty cheap wit a one year warrant

It’s the only windoze pc I have and I hate it but it does the jobs it been got for

Oh I wish artsoft would bring out a Linux based m4 yes they would have to supply the os as well to ensure it works then the motion cards company’s need to get there act together then we would have a real time system

Yes

I have a dell optiplex as my mill controller with all the unused bits removed eg cortana, update functions , and ssd sleep disabled , infact all energy saving sleep functions are disabled , though Gpedit as it a 64bit pro w10 , yes I think I am correct that Mach 4 is a single thread 32bit program ,but I will stand corrected on that.

Now my take on 16gb af ram
I had 8gb installed it was sluggish on startup and load times increasing the ram to 16gb reduced the boot time by half mach4 loads in 4 secs that includes getting the Ethernet SS up and running .

I did notice I was getting some page outs at 8 but not at 16

But note that’s all the dell does is control the mill ,

I use a iMac for the CAD/CAM stuff and that’s in the house , but note I am a hobbiest and do not earn my living from my workshop

To Op

What other programs were you using while mach4 was loading ir file

I have read elsewhere that you like to stream vidieo and generate large 3D toolpaths whist mach4 is running your sub micron res mill

Could that be the reason for the poor load times due to the pc resources spread to thin

IMHO 8 gig of ram is to small for a win 10 pc , and yes I do know a little bit about computers having designed and built on in 1975 era

Make your self a spreadsheet in excel

One page for each tab

Then fill it in with your setting ,keep it safe ,then you can rebuild in the event of failure

If it’s a spreadsheet you can keep it updated

Paper copy wins every time for backup

Thanks Chad

Yes I am ok with the g41/g42 is from the cam and is outputed by the post processor
Sorry I I did not make it clear with the tool table the tool is set by the dia. Column and the dia offset in the dia. Offset. Column

Yes I do use fusion360 for cad/cam

It was when using g41 do I input a - value in the offset table or a + one

These parts are for a beam engine and are tiny about a 10mm cube when made they are split to form bearing brasses

Thanks for the links I will give them a good looking at more than once at 71 the remaining brain cell is slow

Mach4 General Discussion / Cutter compensation (milling)

Can someone explain how to use this

What I can do at this time my post processor outputs the g41 with a p3  this results in the dia. Offset to be set as indicted on the screen

Eg tool = 6
Dia. Offset =6
H offset =6

Now which way do I set the value in the tool table ?

I need this as I am making a bearing with a grove on each side ( made with a woodruff cutter ) and it needs to fit hence the need to set CC I am talking about 0.02 mm

Thanks in advance
