Mach4 General Discussion / System starts on Probing screen
« on: November 09, 2015, 03:06:13 PM »
On the start up the system comes up on the Offsets screen instead of the Program Run screen.

This is not a big problem; however, it seems to manifest itself in other areas. I have two screens on my control computer. One is ~ 15' away from the machine and I use this for programming, downloading files, and virtually anything that requires a keyboard. The screen by the machine is a touch screen and I use it to control certain aspects of the control of the machine. I use a keyboard shortcut (ctrl. + /) to throw M4 from one screen to the other. This is a function of a program called actual multiple monitors. With the most recent release when I move the M4 Screens between monitors it goes back to the Offsets screen. A pain since I have to change it back every time.

Any thoughts?

Mach4 General Discussion / Machine Position 0,0,0 reset???
« on: November 06, 2015, 02:43:57 PM »
Situation - Occasionally I lose the 0,0,0 position when I am working on a piece. I have a gantry style machine and I can actually move the head (mainly on the Y axis) if I put too much pressure on it. Also, if I accidentally run the head into a clamp or some other unintended head crash (I know everyone is in shock that anything like this could ever happen  ::) ).

I have added DROs to show the machine position on the program run screen. My normal mode is to put the 0,0,0 point in the middle of the work piece and reset the zero point to this place. Once I zero out the piece I write down the machine work coordinates so if something happens I can move back to this position after rehoming the machine. Usually I do this with expensive stock.

What I would like is a way of capturing the machine coordinates once I have set the 0,0,0 point on the work piece. Also, I would like a way to automatically move back to this place once I have rehomed the machine.

Thoughts on the best way to do this?

Mach4 General Discussion / Showing selected axis
« on: November 01, 2015, 02:39:28 PM »
Is there a way I can show what axis is selected for Jogging on a button? I would like to put a background behind the active axis DRO box if it is the one selected for jogging.

Mach4 General Discussion / Shuttle pro plugin (Mach4 version 2660)
« on: August 30, 2015, 01:59:24 PM »
The new version of mach4 (Mach4 mill screen set) cause the center wheel on the Shuttle Pro plug in to move at a very rapid rate. Is there any way to control this? The previous version of Mach (2580) had this moving at a very slow rate. I would use the outer wheel to get close and then the center wheel to fine tune. I have tried:

  • changing the rapid rate slider
  • Using the old shuttlepro plug in from 2580
  • While in the shuttlepro programing mode moving the center wheel (this does not bring up the programming window for a button)

Thanks for any help / thoughts,

Mach4 General Discussion / Probing on new Mach 4 screens
« on: August 29, 2015, 01:42:21 PM »
Maybe I am just being dense  ??? but I can't seem to get the probing to work on the new Mach 4. I can get a G31 command entered into the MDI to work. It moves down and when I ground the probe it stops. Thoughts about what I am doing wrong. I would love to get the auto tool touch off working.

Mach4 General Discussion / Shuttle Pro Plugin!!!!
« on: July 26, 2015, 10:28:59 AM »
I don't know if anyone noticed but there is a shuttle pro plug in in the latest release of Mach4 (#2580) - Yeaaaaaaaa.

I have found the following:

The Mach4 window does not have to have focus for the ShuttlePro to work! Yea

The larger jog wheel on the middle of the Shuttle Pro is preset to Jog slow to fast depending on how far the wheel is turned. Good way of doing this.
Warning - On my machine the slow speeds appear to jog the X axis along with any selected axis when Mach 4 first starts; e.g., if I select Y axis the large jog wheel will move the X and Y axis. If I move the center Jog wheel the outer jog wheel behaves as expected for the rest of the session. (I have a gantry style machine with slaved X axis running SmartBob from PMDX so it may work on your machine)

The center jog wheel moves the selected axis at a very slow speed (THIS IS NICE!!!)

The Jog rate + and - seem to jog my Z axis instead of changing the jog rate

There dose not appear to be any selection for Jog X / Y / Z axis + / - right now. The way I previously set up my shuttle pro is to allow different buttons to jog different axis; e.g., the buttons to the left and right of the jog wheel move the Y axis, the two buttons below and to the right of the jog wheel move the Z axis, and the jog wheel moved the X axis in my previous set up. The wheel in the middle of the jog wheel changed the rate of speed of the jog in my previous set up.
The zero axis, cycle start, cycle stop all seem to work. I can't test the Homing function since the latest version of SmartBob homing of X / Y is not working (Z works). If someone else can test this and let us know if it works I would appreciate it.

The plugin will work with other buttons assigned through the Shuttle Pro programing interface. If you want to do normal windows stuff with some of your buttons and Mach 4 stuff with others it is possible. I am not sure which will override the other so be careful in programing the buttons through the normal ShuttlePro interface. I use one of the buttons on the ShuttlePro to move the Mach4 screen from the control computer to the touch screen that is adjacent to the CNC machine.

All in all this seems to be a very nice addition to Mach4 and will definitely make my machine more usable - thanks for the enhancement.

Mach4 General Discussion / 2nd window
« on: July 04, 2015, 01:57:41 PM »
Is it possible to have a second window in Mach? I have a control computer that is 8' away from the machine and a touch screen by the machine. I would like to have a Jog control window on the touch screen while keeping the main screen on the control computer.

Mach4 General Discussion / Line following (tracing)
« on: July 04, 2015, 12:11:00 PM »
I am sure I am not the first one to think of this so I am not sure if this belongs on the Mach4 board or a general CNC board; however, with the flexibility of Mach4 it is more likely achievable than previously. Please forgive me if someone else has solved this problem in a non Mach4 manner - I have found I am ignorant in so many things having to do with CNC! The more I learn the more it appears I don't know.

Here is the question
Is there any way to use line tracing hardware as a 'modified' probe?

Problem I am trying to solve

I have a large gantery style CNC table and often we take paper patterns off of real world items. I put the paper patterns on the table and jog to different locations to get the X,Y coordinate. I then write these down and enter them into my CAD program (Vcarve pro seems to be the easiest). I would like to put the template on the table as a line drawing and tell the 'modified' probe to follow the line. We have tried taking a picture of the line drawing and then trace it in Vcarve pro but we lose the aspect ratio. We spend as much time trying to tweak the image as it would have taken us to do the manual probe.

Any thoughts?

Mach4 General Discussion / Order of tabs in a window
« on: July 04, 2015, 11:52:09 AM »
Is there a way I can move the Jog tab to be the first tab on the OperationsTabs window? I would like for this to be the first one to appear when I start the machine.

I have tried moving it in Screen Tree Manager but I have not had any success.

Mach4 General Discussion / Move buttons on the Jog tab
« on: June 29, 2015, 02:03:58 PM »
I have been playing with the UI and I must say it is COOL!

My question is how do I move buttons on the Jog tab? I can change them on the main tab but when I try to change them on the Jog tab it thinks I am editing the entire Jog window. Sorry if this is a newby questions. If someone can point me at a "Dummies" guide for programming Mach4 I promise I will read it (comprehending may be another issue)
